Rosemary Corbin is a longstanding Democratic public figure and former mayor of Richmond,California. [1]
Corbin served on the Richmond City Council from 1985 to 1993,and then as the mayor from 1993 to 2001. [2] In 1993,Corbin defeated incumbent Richmond Mayor George Livingston,who was seeking re-election. [3]
Corbin was the first directly elected female mayor of the city. She ran unopposed in 1997, [4] while in 2001 she ran up against term limits as mayor and was succeeded by her vice mayor Irma Anderson. In 1999 she had to fight the Chevron Richmond Refinery from lowering its property tax contributions and argue against the company insisting the city survive on a leaner budget. [5] Corbin is still involved in local politics and campaigned against Indian casinos and in support of the failed Measure T.
Corbin studied at San Francisco State University for her BA and at University of California,Berkeley for her Master of library science degree.
She serves as a docent at the Rosie the Riveter/WW II Home Front National Historical Park Rosie the Riveter/Homefront World War II National Historic Park [2] a project she spearheaded as mayor. She was also involved with the largely successful Main Street Project,which has resulted in remodeling MacDonald Avenue,the creation of the Richmond Transit Village and Richmond Shopping Center,and the resurrection of the MacDonald 80 Shopping Center. She is the Chair of the City of Richmond's Historical Preservation Commission,and she is the president of the board of Ujima,a substance abuse treatment program for women and their children.
She has described the relationship between the city and Chevron Corporation that operates as the community's largest employer Chevron Richmond Refinery as "complicated". [1]

Rosie the Riveter World War II Home Front National Historical Park is a United States national historical park located in Richmond,California,near San Francisco. The park preserves and interprets the legacy of the United States home front during World War II,including the Kaiser Richmond Shipyards,the Victory ship SS Red Oak Victory,a tank factory,housing developments and other facilities built to support America's entry into World War II. In particular,the role of women and African-Americans in war industries is explored and honored.
SS Red Oak Victory is a U.S. Victory ship of the Boulder Victory-class cargo ship used in the Second World War. She was preserved to serve as a museum ship in Richmond,California,and is managed by the Richmond Library of History and located near the Rosie the Riveter/World War II Home Front National Historical Park. She was one of 534 Victories built during World War II,but one of only a few of these ships to be transferred from the Merchant Marine to the United States Navy. She was named after Red Oak,Iowa,which suffered disproportionate casualties in early World War II battles.. The ship was active during World War II,the Korean War,and the Vietnam War.

Atchison Village is a community in Richmond,California which was originally built as housing for defense workers from the Kaiser Shipyards. It lies at an elevation of 13 feet. Constructed by the Richmond Housing Authority in 1941 as Richmond's first public defense housing project,it is one of the only projects funded by the Community Facilities Act of 1940 that still exists in Richmond and one of the few in the nation not destroyed after the war. It is one of 20 public housing projects built in Richmond before and during World War II. The Village was sold by the government to its residents for $1,512,00.00 February 28,1957,remaining mutual housing to this day under the ownership of the Atchison Village Mutual Homes Corporation. Many think it would be covered under Proposition 13 as a single unsold parcel,thus limiting tax increases to 2%,but the Tax Assessor does not treat it that way.
The Richmond City Council is the governing body for the city of Richmond,California. The council consists of the Mayor of Richmond and six other city council members,one designated Vice Mayor. The council members are all elected from the whole city;no members are elected by district or ward. The council members are elected to four-year terms,as opposed to the previous six-year terms. They are not all elected at once. The council members meet every first and third Tuesday of the month and,if necessary,hold special meetings on the remaining Tuesdays. Presently the entire city council is Democratic.

John E. Márquez is an American politician and activist who has held various positions in Richmond,California city government. For eighteen years,Márquez served as a city councilman. He was the first Latino to serve on the Richmond City Council. Originally he was an appointee to the council in 1985 and won an election to that seat in 1987;he subsequently lost his second bid in 1991. He was elected again in 1993 and twice more in 1997 and 2004. In 1990 and 1998,he served as vice mayor. The refinery's primary products are motor gasoline,jet fuel,diesel fuel and lubricants.
