Roy Purchase was an Australian wrestler who represented Australia in the 1938 British Empire Games. [1]

Career

Purchase was New South Wales and Australian featherweight champion in 1937. [2]

He won gold in the featherweight (up to 62 kg) wrestling category at the 1938 British Empire Games. [3] [4]

Purchase would have represented Australia at the 1940 Olympic Games but World War II meant they were cancelled. [5] Post-war, he wrestled in the NSW state championships in the lightweight division in 1947, reaching the finals in 1948. [6]

The Coonabarabran Shire was a local government area in the Orana region of New South Wales, Australia. James Michael Armstrong was an Australian sport wrestler and rugby league player. In wrestling, he won a bronze medal at the 1948 Summer Olympics, a gold medal at the 1950 British Empire Games and a bronze medal at the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games. He represented South Sydney, New South Wales and Australia in a nine-year top-level rugby league career. Armstrong served as an officer in the New South Wales Police Force, retiring at the rank of inspector.

The Municipality of Mascot was a local government area in the inner south of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It included the modern suburbs of Eastlakes and Daceyville, with parts of Mascot and Pagewood.
