The Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve Yacht Club (RNVRYC) is a Yacht club recognised as a Service Yacht Club in the United Kingdom.
The Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve Yacht Club was founded in 1947, [1] two years after the Second World War reached its conclusion.
The Yacht club has a warrant to wear the UK's special undefaced blue ensign. [1] [2]
The organisation was founded by members of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve in 1947, having developed from the Sailing Section of the RNVR Officers Club.
Its initial activity, from 1947, involved teams racing against various other clubs and naval establishments. In 1949 the Club presented to the RYA a silver cup for an annual competition of Fireflies.
In recent years many members have acquired their own boats and, since 1976, annual meets for members have been held.
In 2017, the RNVRYC hosted a day of dinghy sailing to celebrate its 70th year. [3] The event aimed to bring together members and former members of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Royal Naval Reserve, and Royal Marines Reserve and their families. [3]

The New York Yacht Club (NYYC) is a private social club and yacht club based in New York City and Newport, Rhode Island. It was founded in 1844 by nine prominent sportsmen. The members have contributed to the sport of yachting and yacht design. As of 2001, the organization was reported to have about 3,000 members. Membership in the club is by invitation only. Its officers include a commodore, vice-commodore, rear-commodore, secretary and treasurer.

Its summer home is on a trio of islands in the Toronto Islands. When the yacht club first opened, it was located on the Burlington Canal, along the beach strip that separates Burlington Bay from Lake Ontario. It later moved to the foot of Bay Street. Since its founding in 1888, RHYC has promoted local and international yacht racing.

The Royal Gibraltar Yacht Club, formerly the Gibraltar Yacht Club, was established by officers of the Royal Navy in 1829. It was one of the first yacht clubs founded outside of Britain. British monarchs and Gibraltarian governors have been patrons of the club; the first visit by a reigning monarch was in 1954. During the latter twentieth century, the naval presence waned and the membership of locals dominated. The club's sailing school was established in 2001, accredited as a teaching facility in 2004, and became a testing centre in 2010. The reclamation projects in the middle section of Gibraltar Harbour necessitated the club's move from 26 Queensway to temporary premises. A new facility is under construction.
John Westell was an English sailboat designer, who is noted for designing the 505 sailing dinghy and the Ocean Bird class of trimarans. Westell also designed cruising sailboats.
