The Royal Saint Lawrence Yacht Club is a yacht club located in Dorval, Quebec, Canada on the shore of Lake St. Louis.
Created in 1888 by a group of men from the Amateur Athletic Association, the club quickly grew.
In 1892, John Rawson Gardiner designed the St. Lawrence Yacht Club. [1] Between 1892-1924, the Royal St. Lawrence Yacht Club planned, developed the site, built the wharf, dredged, and erected breakwaters in Lake St. Louis, Dorval, Quebec. [2] [3]
Mrs W.B. Converse's 'The St. Lawrence Yacht Club Waltz' (1893) was dedicated to the Royal St Lawrence Yacht Club. [4]
William Ramsey Spence's 'Royal St. Lawrence Yacht Club : waltzes for the piano' (no date) was "Dedicated to the Commodore and officers of the Royal St. Lawrence Yacht Club Montreal." [5] [6]
In 1894, Her Majesty Queen Victoria granted the Club the title "Royal". [7] It received permission from the British Admiralty to use the Blue Ensign. [8]
In 1894, William McLea Walbank designed a new stable, coach house and Ice House for Royal St. Lawrence Yacht Club. [9]
In 1895, Edward Maxwell designed the Royal St. Lawrence Yacht Club clubhouse [10]
In 1940-41, the Royal Canadian Navy Reserves scheme for training yacht club members developed the first central registry system. [11]
In 1954 the Duke of Edinburgh extended his royal patronage to the club.
In 1988, as part of the club's centennial celebrations, E. George Hanson wrote 'The Royal St. Lawrence Yacht Club, 1888-1988'. [12]

It is the only Transport Canada designated international airport serving Montreal and is situated 20 km (12 mi) west of Downtown Montreal. The airport terminals are located entirely in the suburb of Dorval, while one runway is located in the Montreal borough of Saint-Laurent. Air Canada, the country's flag carrier, also has its corporate headquarters complex on the Saint-Laurent side of the airport. It also serves Greater Montreal and adjacent regions in Quebec and eastern Ontario, as well as the states of Vermont and northern New York in the United States. RCAF Station Lachine was a Royal Canadian Air Force station located near Lachine and Dorval, Quebec, Canada, to the west of Montreal. The location of the station was Dorval Airport, which became the Montréal-Dorval International Airport.
James Leveson Ross, of Montreal, was a Scottish-born Canadian civil engineer, businessman and philanthropist. He established his fortune predominantly through railway construction, notably for the Canadian Pacific Railway, of which he was the major shareholder, and advising Lord Strathcona on railway projects in Argentina and Chile. He oversaw the electrification of street railways in Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg, Saint John, Birmingham (England), Mexico City and São Paulo. He was president of the Dominion Bridge Company, the Mexican Power Company etc. He was Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel of the 17th Duke of York's Royal Canadian Hussars and Governor of McGill University and the Royal Victoria Hospital. He was an avid collector of the Old Masters and president of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. He owned several yachts including two named Glencairn and became the first Canadian to be made a member of the Royal Yacht Squadron. He funded the construction of the Ross Memorial Wing at the Royal Vic; the Ross Memorial Hospital and Nurse's Home at Lindsay, Ontario; and the Protestant Hospital for the Insane at Verdun, Quebec. He lived in the Golden Square Mile.
Harry Markland Molson was a Canadian politician and entrepreneur. A member of the Molson family, he was Mayor of Dorval, Quebec. He died in the sinking of RMS Titanic in April 1912
