Rubi Rose Benton (born October 2, 1997) is an American internet personality, rapper, and video vixen from Lexington, Kentucky. She first appeared in the music video for Migos' 2016 single "Bad and Boujee." She then pursued a recording career, first appearing on Playboi Carti's unreleased song, "On Top" in 2018. [1] A number of follow-up singles led up to the release of her debut mixtape, For the Streets (2020) through the label Hitco. Despite lukewarm reception, she gained wider success in her modeling career upon joining the subscription service OnlyFans earlier that year. [2] Benton made a cameo in Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion's music video for their 2020 single "WAP". [3]

In 2023, Benton signed with Josh Marshall's Mogul Vision, an imprint of Interscope Records to release the single "Hood Bitch Aesthetic". It is preceding the release of her forthcoming debut studio album. [4]

Early life

Rubi Rose Benton was born on October 2, 1997, in Lexington, Kentucky. Her mother Mina Ghebrelul is from Eritrea and her father John Benton is a lawyer of white, black and Japanese descent. [5] She has an older sister named Scarlette and a younger sister named Coral. [6] She lived for one year in Geneva, Switzerland. She moved to Atlanta, Georgia in her junior year of high school. [7] [8] She studied politics at Georgia State University. [9] She grew up listening to Prince, Michael Jackson, Biggie, Marvin Gaye and Chaka Khan. [10] She is influenced by Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, Future, Nicki Minaj, and Foxy Brown. [11] [12] [13]

Career

Benton first gained attention from appearing in Migos' music video for their single "Bad and Boujee". [14]

Benton began her musical career in September 2018, with a remix of Playboi Carti's song "On Top". In 2019, she gained further traction with her single "Big Mouth". [15] In 2019, she was signed by A&R Chris Turner to LA Reid's record label Hitco Entertainment. [16] Rose made a cameo appearance in American rapper Cardi B's music video for her single "WAP", released on August 7, 2020. [17]

On December 25, 2020, Benton released her first official mixtape For the Streets, which contained guest appearances from Future and PartyNextDoor. [18] The mixtape saw generally negative reviews and failed to chart. [19] Benton was selected for the 2021 XXL Annual Freshman List. [20]

In 2023, she signed with Josh Marshall onto his label Mogul Vision, which operates as part of Interscope Records; Benton released her single "Hood Bitch Aesthetic" in October that year. [21] The following month, she joined rapper Sexyy Red on her "Hottest Hood Princess" Tour. [22] [23] She appeared in the music video for Latto's single "Brokey" that was released on October 11, 2024. Migos were an American hip hop group founded in Lawrenceville, Georgia, in 2008. The group was composed of rapper Quavo, his nephew Takeoff, and their cousin friend Offset. Quavo is from Athens, Georgia, while Offset and Takeoff were born and raised in nearby Lawrenceville. As a group, they were managed by Coach K, the former manager of Gucci Mane and Jeezy, and frequently collaborated with producers DJ Durel, Murda Beatz, Zaytoven, and Buddah Bless. Recognized for their contribution to trap music in the 2010s, Billboard stated that the group "influenced pop culture and the entire English language by bringing their North Atlanta roots to the mainstream".

Along with his recording career, Thorpe has received credits as co-writer on hit songs for other artists, including Kanye West, Cardi B, and Megan Thee Stallion. In 2021, Thorpe won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Song for his contribution on the latter's "Savage Remix".

David Alex Villegas, known by his stage name Skinnyfromthe9, is an American rapper and singer from Somerville, New Jersey. He first gained widespread attention after releasing his song "Love Blast" in late 2017. He signed to L.A. Reid's record label, HITCO, in 2018. He released his debut mixtape, Highly Clouted, in July 2016.
