Ruth Noack (born 12 January 1964) is a German curator and art historian. Noack and Roger M. Buergel, co-curated documenta 12 in Kassel, Germany (16 June - 23 September 2007). [1] In 2019, [2] it was announced that Noack would become the founding executive director of The Corner at Whitman-Walker, a new cultural institution in Washington, D.C., opening in early 2020 as a venue for multidisciplinary artistic expression attached to Whitman-Walker Health. Education

After graduating from Alten Gymnasium in Bremen she studied art history, audiovisual media and feminist theory in Germany, the U.S., England and Austria. She began lecturing in 1990 and published her first critical work in 1992. In 1999 she completed graduate work in art history at the University of Vienna with a MA-thesis on the subjectification processes in the visual arts, exemplified by the early work of Lynn Hershman. In 2000 she began teaching at the University of Vienna, the University of Applied Arts, Vienna (film theory). Since 2001 Noack has worked on the topic "Construction of Childhood" in the context of a research project. In all of her activities, Noack adopts an interdisciplinary approach that closely incorporates film theory. [4]

Work

Noack's writings have been concerned with subjects including global art and the translocal museum, conceptual art in the East, feminist aesthetics and film theory. Noack’s numerous publications and lectures include monographs on the work of Eva Hesse, Alejandra Riera, Danica Dakic, Ines Doujak, Sanja Ivekovic [5] and Mary Kelly. In 2002-2003 Noack served as President of AICA (International Association of Art Critics) Austria. In 2006 and 2008 she was a member of the jury for the CCAA (Chinese Contemporary Art Award). During the 2012-2013 academic year Noack was Head of Programme, Curating Contemporary Art at the Royal College of Art in London and acted as Research Leader for the EU project "MeLa – European Museums in an age of migrations." [6] [7] Her writing appears regularly in international journals and magazines, including_ springerin_,Texte zur Kunst, Camera Austria and Afterall.

In 2022, she was appointed director of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb. She resigned from her position in the fall of 2023 for personal reasons. She returned to Ljubljana, where she currently works as an independent curator, author and international consultant.

Florian Pumhösl is a contemporary artist based in Vienna, mainly known for his works that employ abstract visual language to reflect on the diverse manifestations of modernity. His work has been described as being "between the two poles of formalism and historicity." Often taking the form of a series, his works span a wide range of media, including films, installations, objects, and glass paintings.

documenta (13) 2012 art exhibition in Kassel, Germany

dOCUMENTA (13) was the thirteenth edition of the quinquennial contemporary art exhibition documenta. It took place between 9 June until 16 September 2012 in Kassel, Germany. The exhibition was held under the theme Collapse and Recovery. Exhibits could be seen in several venues in the city, among others in the Fridericianum museum, in the Orangerie and in the Karlsaue, a large urban park.

Katy Deepwell is a feminist art critic and academic, based in London. She is the founder and editor of n.paradoxa: international feminist art journal, published 1998-2017, in 40 volumes by KT press. She founded KT press as a feminist not-for-profit publishing company to publish the journal and books on feminist art. KT press has published 8 e-books, supported by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. In Feb 2017, Katy Deepwell wrote and published a MOOC on feminism and contemporary art at. In May 2020, a second advanced course on feminist art manifestos was added to the site. The model for both MOOCs is FemTechNet’s DOCC: Distributed Open Collaborative Course.

documenta 12 was the twelfth edition of documenta, a quinquennial contemporary art exhibition. It was held between 16 June and 23 September 2007 in Kassel, Germany. The artistic director was Roger M. Buergel in collaboration with Ruth Noack.

iLiana Fokianaki

iLiana Fokianaki is the director of Kunsthalle Bern. She is a Greek curator, writer, theorist, educator and former journalist based in Bern, and occasionally Athens and Rotterdam.

Wieland Schmied was an Austrian art historian and critic, curator, literary scholar and writer. He was professor of art history at the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich since 1986 and its rector from 1988 until 1993. He was president of the Bayerische Akademie der Schönen Künste from 1995 to 2004.

Elke Krasny is a cultural and architectural theorist, urban researcher, curator, and author. Her work specializes in architecture, contemporary art, urbanism, feminist museology, histories and theories of curating, critical historiographies of feminism, politics of remembrance, and their intersections. Krasny received her Ph.D. from the University of Reading. She is Professor of Art and Education at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. She worked as a visiting professor at the University of Bremen and the Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg. In 2012 she was visiting scholar at the Canadian Centre for Architecture CCA, Montréal. In 2014, she was City of Vienna Visiting Professor at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Urban Culture and Public Space (SKuOR) at the Vienna University of Technology. Using the framework of political care ethic developed by Joan Tronto, Krasny works on developing a perspective of critical care for architectural and urban practice and theory. In 2019, together with Angelika Fitz she edited Critical Care. Architecture and Urbanism for a Broken Planet.

Marina Vishmidt was an American writer, editor and critic. She lectured at the Centre for Cultural Studies at Goldsmiths, University of London in the MA program Culture Industry, and taught Art Theory in the MA Art Praxis at the Dutch Art Institute in Arnhem. Her research mainly concerned the relationship between art, value and labour. She further explored this through works on debt, social reproduction and artistic entrepreneurialism. In 2013, she completed her PhD entitled Speculation as a Mode of Production in Art and Capital at the Queen Mary University of London. In the Summer Semester, 2022, Vishmidt was the Arnheim Visiting Professor at the Institut für Kunst- und Bildgeschichte at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. In October 2023 she started a new position as Professor for Art Theory at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Vishmidt died on April 26, 2024.
