Ryan Gallo (born November 22, 1972, in Depew, New York), is an American basketball coach.

Gallo is currently head coach for the Buffalo eXtreme of the American Basketball Association (ABA). He also works as recruiting coordinator for Bryant & Stratton Buffalo of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association, and is head coach of their junior varsity team.

At the high school level, he coached St. Mary's High School to the CHSAA Class B championship in 2022.

He previously coached football, having served as special teams coordinator for the Buffalo Destroyers and offensive coordinator for the Buffalo State Bengals.

Early life

Ryan M. Gallo was born in Depew, New York on November 22, 1972. [1] He attended Depew High School, where he lettered in baseball, basketball (point guard), and football (wide receiver). [1]

Playing career

Gallo attended Hilbert College for his freshman year, playing NJCAA basketball under coach John Kissel in his final season before retirement. [1] [2]

He then transferred to St. Bonaventure University, playing three years in NCAA Division I under Jim Baron. [3] Gallo graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education. [4]

After graduation, he played semi-professional basketball in Italy for six months before ending his career as a player. [1]

Gallo then interned for St. Bonaventure during their 1995–96 season, learning from Jim Baron and his assistants Brian Nash, Joe Lombardi, and Rob Lanier. [5]

Coaching career

Football

Gallo was hired by the Buffalo Destroyers of the Arena Football League in February 2001 as assistant head coach. [6] After Ray Bentley resigned as head coach in October 2002, Gallo was retained by his replacement Ron Selesky, who subsequently promoted him to special teams coordinator and wide receivers coach. [7] [8]

He served as offensive coordinator for the Buffalo State Bengals during their 2003–04 season, working under head coach Bob Swank. [4]

Gallo was hired by Matt Smith as an assistant coach for Hernando High School in 2004, but left mid-season after relocating outside of Florida. [9] [10]

He served as head coach of Williamsville South High School from 2004 to 2006. [9] [11]

Basketball

Gallo was hired by former St. Bonaventure teammate David Vanterpool to work as an NBA scout for the Oklahoma City Thunder at the 2012 Atlantic 10 men's basketball tournament. [4]

He was promoted to head coach of St. Mary's High School in 2021 after having served as an assistant coach under Paul Rath for six seasons. [12] Gallo captured the 2022 CHSAA Class B championship in his first season as head coach, and led the team to a championship game appearance the following year. [13]

Gallo served as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for Bryant & Stratton Buffalo under Damone Brown for their 2023–24 season, leading them to a United States Collegiate Athletic Association Final Four appearance. [5] The college promoted him to head coach of their junior varsity team in 2024. [4]

He was named head coach for the Buffalo eXtreme of the American Basketball Association in August 2025, replacing Richard Jacob. [5]

Personal life

Gallo has been married to account manager Juliane Goings since 2004, and they have three children. [4] [14]

He has been a tennis instructor at the Village Glen Tennis & Pickleball Club in Williamsville, New York since 2005. [1]

Gallo works as a sports commentator for high school and collegiate broadcasts in Western New York. [15]
