S. K. M. Maeilanandhan, is an Indian industrialist from Erode, Tamil Nadu. He is the founder of S. K. M. group of companies. In 2013, he was awarded Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award by the Government of India for his contributions to social service.

Biography

Maeilanandhan was born as Saminathapuram Krisnasamy Mayilsamy in 1945 in Modakurichi near Erode in the erstwhile Coimbatore district of Madras Presidency (now in Erode district, Tamil Nadu). [1] He was born in a Kongu Vellalar agricultural family. [2] He chose not to pursue agriculture and opened a small general store at Erode in 1966. Over the years, it grew into a 50 billion business conglomerate involved in diverse activities including poultry farming, manufacture of Ayurveda and Siddha medicines, fertilizers and animal feeds. [3] The conglomerate includes the following constituent entities: SKM Egg Products, [4] [5] SKM Animal Feeds and Foods, [6] SKM Siddha and Ayurvedic Medicines [1] [7] and SKM Health and Mind Welfare Charity Trust. [1]

Maeilanandhan serves as the President of the World Community Service Centre (WCSC), a non profit spiritual organization founded by Vethathiri Maharishi involved in the education of yoga and meditation techniques. [8] The organization conducts welfare programmes covering various village panchayats across India. [9] The charitable trust he founded in 1989 has adopted multiple villages to support them with basic infrastructure. [3] [9]

In 2013, he was awarded Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award by the Government of India for his contributions to social service. [10]

Meenakshi Chitharanjan, an Indian classical dancer, teacher and choreographer, is known as an exponent of the Pandanallur style of the classical dance form of Bharatanatyam. She is the founder of Kaladiksha, an institution promoting Bharatanatyam and striving to preserve the Pandanallur tradition. A disciple of the father-son duo of Chokkalingam Pillai and Subbaraya Pillai, she is a recipient of several honours including Kalaimamani Award of the Government of Tamil Nadu and the Natya Kala Sarathi of Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha. Damal Kandalai Srinivasan is an Indian social worker, business person, philanthropist and the co-founder of Hindu Mission Hospital, Chennai. He is also the secretary of Valluvar Gurukulam, an educational institution founded in 1940 for the children of the refugees from Burma, which has since grown to the present-day Valluvar Gurukulam Higher Secondary School. Arjunan Rajasekaran is an Indian urologist and one of the pioneers of male infertility therapy in India. He is a former Professor and Head of the Department of Urology at the Madras Medical College, the founder of Madras Andrology and Assisted Reproduction Research Centre, a Chennai-based male infertility clinic, and a recipient of Dr. B. C. Roy Award, the highest Indian award in the medical category. He heads the National Board of Examinations as its president, the highest academic position in the medical sector in India. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2008, for his contributions to medical science.

V. Nanammal was India's oldest yoga teacher. She trained one million students over 45 years and taught one hundred students daily. Six hundred of her students have become yoga instructors around the world.

Madurai Narayanan Krishnan (1928–2005) was an Indian musician, known for his proficiency in carnatic music. He was known to have been proficient in all the three facets of music viz. vocals, lyrics and music and was considered by many as a Vaggeyakara. The Government of India awarded him the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in 1992 and followed it up with the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award, in 2003. He was also a recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, UNESCO Award and the Kalaimamani Award.
