The Servidor de Apontadores Portugueses Online (SAPO, English: Portuguese Online Pointers Server) is a Portuguese portal and provider of products and services for the Internet. Founded in 1995 as a search engine, it is the largest internet portal in Portugal. [1] The current SAPO logo was created in 2014. [2]
SAPO is an information hub and receives over 61 million visits per month. [2] Currently, SAPO is produced by MEO - Serviços de Comunicações e Multimédia.
SAPO was created on September 4, 1995, at the University of Aveiro by six students in the Center for Informatics of the university. [3] The name originated from the acronym of the service, S.A.P. (Servidor de Apontadores Portugueses), which later evolved into Servidor de Apontadores Portugueses Online, giving rise to the acronym SAPO. [1] Another factor in the name was Sapo Cocas, which is the European Portuguese name of Kermit the Frog. [4]
In 1997, SAPO became the property of the company Navegante and began commercial operation. [1] At some point,[ specify ] it became part of Altice Portugal.[ citation needed ]
SAPO Fotos was an online photo hosting, management, and sharing service launched by SAPO in 2005. [5] It reached approximately 200,000 users and 16 million images. Among other associated projects, it had partnerships with Agência Lusa, which made their photographic archive available on SAPO Fotos, and SAPO Panoramas, which featured the best 360-degree photographs taken in Portugal. The service was discontinued in 2017. [6]
SAPO expanded internationally in 2008 by opening localized portals in Angola and Cabo Verde, followed by Moçambique and Timor-Leste in 2010. These portals featured local content in partnership with local media outlets. In 2020, the service was shut down by Altice, the company that owns SAPO. [7]
In August 1999, PT Multimédia acquired 74.9% on SAPO and UOL and Zipnet in the Brazil. In May 2000, the company became 100% owned by PTM.com, PTM first portal. [8] .In October 2007, PT Portugal's spin-off with PT Multimédia in 2007, when it was incorporated into PTC (now MEO). [9] Currently since 2008, the portal is not part.
The Associação Académica de Coimbra (AAC) is the students' union of the University of Coimbra (UC). Founded in Coimbra on November 3, 1887, it is the oldest students' union in Portugal. It is also the biggest Portuguese students' union belonging to an independent institution, since it represents all the students of its university, who gain automatic membership into the AAC as students of the University of Coimbra.
The Lusa News Agency is the largest news agency in Portugal, as well as the largest news agency in the Portuguese language, incorporated on 28 November 1986 under the name of Agência Lusa — Cooperativa de Interesse Público de Responsabilidade Limitada or simply Lusa - CIPRL, following the extinction of the earlier Portuguese news agency ANOP Agência Noticiosa Portuguesa. Lusa is a member of, and participates in, the European Pressphoto Agency and is an active member of the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA).
Altice Portugal S.A. is the largest telecommunications service provider in Portugal. Since 2 June 2015 the company has been a wholly owned subsidiary of Altice, a multinational cable and telecommunications company with a presence in France, Israel, Belgium, Luxembourg, Portugal, French West Indies/Indian Ocean Area, the Dominican Republic, and Switzerland. The assets in Portugal were sold to Altice in 2015 per request of Oi SA to reduce debt. The African assets were mostly sold for the same reason. Portugal Telecom, SGPS SA was split in separate companies: PT Portugal and Pharol, which owns a 27.5% stake in Oi.
NOS, SGPS S.A. is a Portuguese telecommunications and media company which provides mobile and fixed telephony, cable television, satellite television and internet. The company resulted from the merger in 2013 of two of the country's major telecommunications companies: Zon Multimédia and Sonae's Optimus Telecommunications.
Sport TV is a Portuguese sports-oriented premium cable and satellite television network with seven premium channels in Portugal, one sports news channel and one channel in Portuguese-speaking Africa. The first channel, then only known as Sport TV, was launched on 16 September 1998. It is owned by Altice Portugal, NOS, Vodafone Portugal and Global Media Group. It is available in almost all television distribution operators in Portugal as a premium subscription channel.
MEO. is a mobile and fixed telecommunications service and brand from Altice Portugal, managed by MEO - Serviços de Comunicações e Multimédia. The service was piloted in Lisbon in 2007 and was later extended to Porto and Castelo Branco.

Praia da Granja is a FEE Blue Flag beach located in the Northwest of Portugal, and belongs to the Vila Nova de Gaia municipality, Porto District. This place is also located in the town of São Félix da Marinha. The northern boundary of the beach is bordered by the Ribeira da Granja.

Praia da Oura is a blue flag beach within the Municipality of Albufeira, in the Algarve, Portugal. The beach is in the eastern district of Albufeira in the neighbourhood called Areias de São João. Its flanked by Praia dos Aveiros to the west and Praia de Santa Eulália to the eastern side. The beach is approximately 900 metres (3,000 ft) in length and is 450 metres (1,480 ft) wide at low tide.

The Universidade de Santiago is a private Cape Verdean university. The main campus is in Assomada, located in the middle of the Island of Santiago. There are two satellite campuses, one in Praia and another one in Tarrafal. It is one of the eight existing universities in Cape Verde; it was established on November 24, 2008. Since its opening in 2008, it has been run by the current rector Gabriel António Monteiro Fernandes, who holds a Ph.D. in Sociology.
