Sport Clube Sanjoanense (Capeverdean Crioulo, ALUPEC or ALUPEK: Sanjoanensi also in the São Vicente Crioulo) is a sports club that its football (soccer) team plays in the Boa Vista Island League in Cape Verde. The team is based in the island of Boa Vista. The team has never won any titles or regional honours and being the two clubs on the island, the other being Estância Baixo. Sanjoanense are one of the island's three clubs who never won championship titles. Along with Africa Show, they are the clubs who never appeared at the national championships from Boa Vista, but Sanjoanense is the only club from Boa Vista who never appeared at national football competitions.

The Alfabeto Unificado para a Escrita do Caboverdiano, commonly known as ALUPEC, is the alphabet that was officially recognized by the Cape Verdean government to write Cape Verdean Creole.

Boa Vista, also written as Boavista, is a desert-like island that belongs to the Cape Verde Islands. At 631.1 km2 (243.7 sq mi), it is the third largest island of the Cape Verde archipelago.

About the club

Apart from football (soccer) there are also in the club an athletics department.

The club and the logo are not related to the Portuguese club Sanjoanense.

Its logo is triangular colored aqua with the full club name in the white colored tab in the middle and on top, the camel.

The club suffered in the 2015-16 season and had a winless season, it had three draws and totalled three points, the club was eight. Their last win at the championship was at the end of the 2015 season.

Sanjoanense started the 2016-17 season not as last season, they lost the first three matches and were last placed. The season's first win came on February 5 and ended their 17 match losing streak after a 0-1 victory over Estância Baixo. Their position reached third at the sixth round and made their fourth straight win at the 8th round after defeating Juventude, Africa Show, Sporting and Onze Estrelas. Another loss came on April 1 where they lost to Rabil's Africa Show and their position dropped to 5th after two losses, the last was to Académica Operária on April 9. From the 12th round, they were fifth and they would finish for the season. Their recent win was a 3-2 victory over Sporting. Sanjoanense finished with 22 points and had 7 wins and scored 18 goals.

Sanjoanense started the 2016-17 season with a loss to Académica Operária, then two straight wins. At round 7, they were third. Sanjoanense recently lost to Juventude 5-2 on February 25 and is third place ahead of Onze Estrelas and behind Académica Operária and Sal Rei.

Sanjoanense started the 2017-18 season with a loss before making a win over Desportivo on December 17. Later at the 11th round, Sanjoanense became third with 19 points, two less than Académica Operária's. Sanjoanense suffered a loss to Sporting a round later and mostly lost the contest for a championship title and a national championship participation which Sanjoanense never done before. The chance is still there with only six points less than first placed Sal Rei. Sanjoanense shares its 19 points and six wins alongside Sporting and Onze Estrelas, both had a final chance for competing for a regional title. Sanjoanense lost to Sal Rei on March 17 and completely lost a chance for a title, alongside Sporting, Africa Show and Onze Estrelas.

The club trains at Fundo das Figueiras, its matches are played at Estádio Municipal Arsénio Ramos which is a multi-use stadium in Sal Rei, Cape Verde. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium holds 500. The stadium is home to the island's best football clubs including Académica Operária and Sporting Boa Vista. It is also the home of Sanjoanense. Clubs from other parts of the island plays at the stadium. The club also practices at the stadium.

Estádio Municipal Arsénio Ramos

Estádio Municipal Arsénio Ramos is a multi-use stadium in Boa Vista, Cape Verde, it is used for both football and athletics. Its location is northeast of the town center south of the town perimeter road, a bypass connecting the port and places in the east and south of the island. It is at the urban limit and close to the island's industrial area located in the east and former salt mines to the west along with its beach and its newly built hotels and villas. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of Académica Operária, Sal-Rei, Sanjoanense and Sporting. The stadium holds 500 people. It is named for Arsénio Ramos, its size is 104x66 m and its grass is natural.

Sal Rei Settlement in Boa Vista, Cape Verde

Sal Rei is a city on the northwestern coast of the island of Boa Vista in eastern Cape Verde. Sal Rei is the island's main urban settlement, and the seat of the Boa Vista Municipality. In 2010 its population was 5,778. The name of the settlement means "Salt King" in Portuguese. This name stems from when the island's main industry was salt production.
