On December 14 and 15 of 2013, the Sport Jiu-Jitsu International Federation (SJJIF) hosted their first ever world championship at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, California, with over 1800 competitors from around the world and two full days of tournament. In 2014, NABJJ had over 2200 competitors and 3 days.
All SJJIF events feature divisions in Gi and No Gi for children through seniors. There are no advantages and no referee decision, the SJJIF only works with points.

The North American Grappling Association (NAGA) is a grappling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) promotion started in 1995. NAGA Submission Grappling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments are held throughout North America and Europe. NAGA is the largest submission grappling association in the world with over 700,000 participants world-wide, including some of the top submission grapplers and MMA fighters in the world. NAGA also promotes MMA events which they term Reality Fighting.

The ADCC Submission Fighting World Championship, is an international submission grappling competition, organised by the Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC). The inaugural tournament was held in Abu Dhabi, UAE in 1998. It has been held every two years since, except in 2021 due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. Host countries have included Brazil, China, Finland, Spain, the UK, and the US.

Kenzhebulatov Marat — Kazakh athlete and world champion in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu among Gi and No-Gi black belt, bronze medalist of the European IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championship, bronze medalist American National IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi Championship, head coach and owner of Jiu-Jitsu Bars Checkmat in Los Angeles and in Almaty.
Maxine Thylin is a Swedish grappler and Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt competitor. Thylin is a multiple Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion in coloured belt and the 2017 black belt World Champion.
The 2021 World Jiu-Jitsu Championship or World 2021 IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championship was an international jiu-jitsu event organised by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJFF) and held at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California, from 9-12 December 2021. This 25th edition of the most prestigious Brazilian jiu-jitsu tournament was the first one to take place following the COVID-19 pandemic and the cancellation of the 2020 season, it saw the emergence of a brand new generation of world champions.
