The Soccer Writers Association of Ireland Personality of the Year [1] is an annual award for the person considered to have made the most positive impact on the domestic League of Ireland season.
Instigated in 1961 - when Drumcondra's Dan McCaffrey was the winner - it is one of the few awards that can be given to either a player or manager. In fact, the recipient in 1964 was FAI secretary Joe Wickham.
The award is organised by the Soccer Writes' Association of Ireland. [2]
The winner of the SWAI Personality of the Year is chosen by members of the Soccer Writers' Association of Ireland. The selection process considers performance, influence, and contributions to the league over the course of a season. Both on-field excellence and off-field leadership are taken into account when determining the recipient.

Damien Anthony Duff is an Irish professional football manager and former player. He is currently the manager of League of Ireland club Shelbourne.
Alan Mathews is a former Irish football player and manager. He is currently technical director at St Patrick's Athletic.
Patrick Fenlon is an Irish football coach and former player.
Jason Byrne is an Irish retired footballer who played as a forward. He is the second highest ever goal scorer in the history of the League of Ireland.

The 2006 League of Ireland Premier Division was the 22nd season of the League of Ireland Premier Division. The division was made up of 12 teams. Shelbourne were champions while Derry City finished as runners-up. However Shelbourne were subsequently demoted to the First Division and had to withdraw from the 2007–08 UEFA Champions League and 2007 Setanta Sports Cup because of their financial difficulties.
Owen Heary is an Irish professional football player and manager. He is formerly the manager of Shelbourne in the League of Ireland First Division, the club with which he spent most of his playing career.
Damien Byrne is an Irish former professional football player. In a career spanning 20 seasons, Byrne won player of the year awards in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, the only man to do so. He started his career as a forward but midway through his career switched to centre back.

James Christopher McLaughlin was a Northern Irish footballer and was a football manager in the League of Ireland.
Ronan Finn is an Irish professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for League of Ireland First Division side UCD, where he is also club captain. Across a playing career spanning nearly 20 years, he has turned out for UCD, Sporting Fingal, Dundalk and Shamrock Rovers. Having made over 50 appearances in European competition, Finn competed in the group stages of the Europa League with both Shamrock Rovers (2011) and Dundalk (2016).
