Saadat Ali (born 3 February 1955) is a former Pakistani cricketer who played eight One Day Internationals for Pakistan in 1984. He has the distinction of being the first Pakistani to carry his bat in a one-day international when he was 78 not out. [1]

Career

Ali made his first-class debut in the 1973–74 season and his List A debut in 1974–75. Ali made his national team debut on 9 March 1984 at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore against England. [2] He played a further seven matches for his country, with the last of them held on 7 December 1984 at Multan Cricket Stadium against New Zealand. He continued to played first-class cricket until the 1988–89 season. He retired from List A cricket till 1989–90.

He held the national record for the most first-class runs in a season for House Building Finance Corporation and Lahore City Whites in 1983–84.

Ali became a match referee after his retirement. He has overseen 110 first-class, 63 List A, and 28 T20 matches, with the last of them held on 27 January 2015. [2]

Personal life

Saadat was born in Lahore, Punjab on 6 February 1955. [1] His brother, Ashraf Ali, is also a former Pakistani cricketer who played in 8 Tests and 16 ODIs from 1980 to 1987. [3]

Syed Azhar Saeed is a former Pakistani-born cricketer who played for the United Arab Emirates national cricket team. Azhar Saeed played five first-class cricket games for Lahore City Whites and Lahore City from 1984–85 to 1987–88 before later emigrating to the Emirates, which he first represented in the 1994 ICC Trophy, where he was named joint man-of-the-tournament.

The Zimbabwe cricket team toured Pakistan from 19 to 31 May 2015. The tour consisted of three One Day International (ODI) and two Twenty20 International (T20I) matches, all played at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. It was the first tour of Pakistan by a Test-playing nation since the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore in 2009. Pakistan won the T20I series 2–0 and won the ODI series 2–0 after the third match finished as a no result. It was Pakistan's first ODI series win in two years. Pakistan ODI captain Azhar Ali said "it's been an exciting and emotional series for many reasons. It became important for us, as many of us never played in Pakistan, and winning makes it more significant because it gives you confidence".

Hasan Ali is a Pakistani cricketer who plays for the national team in all formats. He made his first-class debut for Sialkot in October 2013. He made his international debut for Pakistan in August 2016 in a One Day International (ODI) match against Ireland. The following summer, he was named in Pakistan's squad for the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy. Pakistan went on to win the tournament with Ali named player of the tournament after taking thirteen wickets, and took the final wicket of Jasprit Bumrah. He became the quickest bowler for Pakistan to take 50 wickets in ODIs. In August 2018, he was one of thirty-three players to be awarded a central contract for the 2018–19 season by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Faheem Ashraf is a Pakistani international cricketer who represents the national side and plays first-class cricket for Faisalabad.

The Zimbabwe cricket team toured Pakistan in October and November 2020 to play three One Day International (ODI) and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. All of the matches were played behind closed doors at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The ODI series formed part of the inaugural 2020–2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League. Pakistan's Babar Azam captained the team for the first time in ODI cricket.
