Saagar K. Chandra (born Kala Sagar) [1] [2] [3] is an Indian film director and screenwriter who predominantly works in Telugu cinema. He made his directorial debut film in 2012 with Ayyare. He then directed Appatlo Okadundevadu (2016) and Bheemla Nayak (2022).

Personal life

Chandra hails from Nalgonda district in present-day Telangana. [4] He was born to Rama Chandra and Sunitha Reddy. His birthname was Kala Sagar, but he changed it to Saagar K. Chandra to suffix his father's name. [5] He also has a sister, Gauthami Reddy. He did his schooling in Nalgonda and graduated from Vasavi College of Engineering in Hyderabad, [lower-alpha 1] and later moved to the United States to pursue his Masters. In 2017, he married Geetha Reddy. [6]

Film career

He left his job in the US and moved back to Hyderabad in 2009 to pursue his career in films. He faced resistance from his family when he conveyed his interest in films, as he does not have a film background. [6] He worked as an assistant director to Ravi Babu in Amaravathi (2009). He also worked with Madhura Sreedhar in the direction department. His first film as a director was Ayyare (2012), which got critical acclaim. [7] Later, he directed Appatlo Okadundevadu (2016), which also critical acclaim and a commercial success as well. [8]

In 2022, he directed the Telugu remake of Ayyappanum Koshiyum , titled Bheemla Nayak , starring Pawan Kalyan, Rana Daggubati and Nithya Menen, under Sithara Entertainments. [9] [10] Unlike the original, it received mixed reviews upon release, but it was a decent grosser at the box office, becoming Kalyan's highest-grosser of his career.

Pawan Kalyan is an Indian actor, screenwriter, stunt coordinator, philanthropist and politician. His film works are predominantly in Telugu cinema. He is the youngest brother of popular actor Chiranjeevi. Pawan Kalyan made his acting debut in the 1996 Telugu film Akkada Ammayi Ikkada Abbayi. His next four films were all box-office successes namely Gokulamlo Seeta (1997), Suswagatham (1998), Tholi Prema (1998), and Thammudu (1999). NTR: Mahanayakudu is a 2019 Indian Telugu-language biographical film, based on the real life and political career of N. T. The film's soundtrack album featured seven songs, featuring lyrics written by Ramajogayya Sastry, Trivikram, Roll Rida and Kasarla Shyam. The album was released on 14 February 2022 under the Aditya Music label.

Darshanam Mogilaiah also known as Kinnera Mogulaiah, is an artist from the Indian state of Telangana and is one among a few surviving performers of a tribal musical instrument known by the name Kinnera. The kinnera is a stringed instrument much like a veena whose origin can be traced back to as early as the 4th century CE. The instrument is indigenous to the nomadic tribes and the Dalit communities in the Deccan Plateau such as the Dakkali, Madiga and the Chenchu. There are kinneras with different numbers of stairs or steps. Mogilaiah's forefathers were pioneers in making and playing kinneras having different numbers of stairs. His father had made a nine-stair kinnera. Mogilaiah was the first person to create a 12-stair kinnera and he is the only artist who makes and plays the 12-step kinnera. In the year 2022, Govt of India honoured him with the Padma Shri award for his contributions as a kinnera musician.

Bro (transl. Brother) is a 2023 Indian Telugu-language supernatural fantasy comedy film directed by Samuthirakani, from a screenplay by Trivikram Srinivas. Produced by People Media Factory and Zee Studios, the film stars Sai Dharam Tej and Pawan Kalyan. It is a remake of director's own 2021 Tamil film Vinodhaya Sitham.
