Sacred Heart College was a Roman Catholic all girls' school in Ballarat, Victoria. The school was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1881 and closed in 1994 preceding the amalgamation of the College with St Martin's in the Pines and St Paul's Technical College to form Damascus College Ballarat.

In 1906 the primary students were moved to St Francis Xavier College. [3]

In 1960 Alice Fanning bequeathed property in Mt Clear to the Sisters of Mercy. In 1967 the land was developed for a senior school for the girls, named St Martin's in the Pines. In 1968 the Year 11 and 12 students of Sacred Heart moved to the campus at Mt Clear, which became co-educational in 1988. [2] [3]

Former Premier of Victoria Steve Bracks was a teacher at the school. [4]

Today the College and convent are used for ghost tours by a Daylesford company. [5]

The Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a Roman Catholic female religious congregation, founded in 1880 by Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini. The McAuley Catholic High School is a coeducational Catholic Academy in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England, and since 2003, a Specialist School for the Performing Arts. St Paul's College, formerly St Paul's Technical College and St Paul's Technical School, was a Catholic boys school in Ballarat.

Martha Mary O'Neill (1878–1972), known by her religious name as Mother Patricia, was an Australian nun who became superior general for the Australian Union of the Sisters of Mercy. She was born in Cork, Ireland, and emigrated with her family to Victoria, Australia, in 1886. She joined the Sisters of Mercy as a young woman, professing her vows in 1903. She became superior general of the newly formed Australian Union of the Sisters of Mercy in 1954, and served in this role for twelve years, retiring in 1966.

Mary May Scollen (1887–1967), known by her religious name as Sister Mary Justinian, was an Australian religious who was notable for her nursing and hospital administration. She joined the North Sydney congregation of the Sisters of Mercy, professing final vows in 1907. Trained as a nurse, she served as matron of the Mater Misericordis Hospital in the north Sydney area, for 44 years. She then served as hospital administrator for four years, and concurrently was the superior for her convent. She was appointed M.B.E. in 1958.

Barbara Bell (1870-1957), was a Catholic educationalist and later a religious sister who made a significant contribution to teacher training in Australia.

Eileen Healy was an Australian Sister of Mercy, better known as Mother Bonaventure. Her roles as school principal at Sacred Heart College and as an educationalist at the Aquinas Training College for Teachers in Ballarat, resulted in her contributing to the training of hundreds of future Australian teachers. She also managed multiple building projects throughout her career, contributing greatly to the educational landscape of regional Victoria. Building projects included the construction of hostels, convents, primary and secondary school buildings and facilities, both in Ballarat and other country towns in Victoria. Her desire to contribute to the social needs of Ballarat saw her also inaugurate the Mercy Home Care and Nursing Service.

Mary Catherine Bruton (1862–1937) was the superior-general of the Sisters of Charity of Australia from 1924 – 1936 and also served as an educator and a hospital administrator. She was better known as Mother Canice.

Gertrude Healy was an Australian violinist who taught at the Albert Street Conservatorium of Music in Melbourne, and became conductor of their chamber orchestra. She was well respected for her virtuosity as a violinist, and her willingness to introduce audiences to contemporary works by composers of her day. She later became a member of the Sisters of Mercy, a Catholic religious order, and taught at the Sacred Heart College in her hometown of Ballarat, Victoria.
