Salim Jreissati (born 4 April 1952) is a lawyer and politician. He served as Lebanon's minister of labor between 2012 and February 2014. From 18 December 2016 to 31 January 2019 he was the minister of justice. On 31 January 2019 he was named state minister for presidential affairs which he held until January 2020.
Jreissati's family is from Zahle,east Lebanon. [1] He was born there on 4 April 1952. [2] He graduated from the Saint Joseph University with a bachelor's degree in 1976. [3] He received both the Lebanese and French degrees in law,and a high degree in private law. [2]
Jreissati is a former member of the Constitutional Council. [1] He became a registered member of the Beirut Bar Association on 8 November 1974. [2] In 1976,he began to work at Saint Joseph University as a lecturer. [4] He is the former member of the Lebanese Constitutional Council (1977–2009). [4] He served at the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) as a legal advisor for the defence team of four Hezbollah members,including Mustafa Badreddine,who were allegedly involved in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. [5] In 2010,Jressati was one of the legal advisors who contributed to the drafting of the new Syrian constitution. [1] In addition,he served as an adviser to former president Emile Lahoud. [6] [7] He was appointed labor minister in Najib Mikati's cabinet on 24 February 2012,replacing Charbel Nahas in the post. [6] [8] Jreissati was nominated by the Free Patriotic Movement leader and member of parliament Michel Aoun. [9] After his appointment,Aoun announced that Jreissati became a member of the Change and Reform bloc, [10] represented by ten ministers in the cabinet composed of thirty ministers. [11] Jreissati's term ended on 15 February when Sejaan Azzi was appointed labor minister. [12]
On 18 December 2016 Jreissati was named the minister of justice in the cabinet led by Prime Minister Saad Hariri. [13] He was in the post until 31 January 2019 when he was named the state minister for presidential affairs. Jreissati was in office until January 2020.
From 1993 to 1997 Jreissati was a member of the directors' board of At Tamwil Bank. [2] In 2008,he was named as a member of the board of directors of Emirates Lebanon bank. [2]
Jreissati is married and has three children. [2]
Rafic Bahaa El Deen al-Hariri,also known as Rafiq al-Hariri,was a Lebanese businessman and politician,who served as the Prime Minister of Lebanon from 1992 to 1998 and again from 2000 until he resigned on 20 October 2004,before his assassination in 2005.

The 2006–2008 Lebanese protests were a series of political protests and sit-ins in Lebanon that began on 1 December 2006,led by groups that opposed the US and Saudi-backed government of Prime Minister Fouad Siniora and ended on 21 May 2008 with the signing of the Doha Agreement. The opposition was made up of Hezbollah,Amal,and the Free Patriotic Movement (FPM);a number of smaller parties were also involved,including the Marada party,the Lebanese Communist Party and the Syrian Social Nationalist Party. A majority of the members of the government were part of the anti-Syrian March 14 Alliance,a coalition of political parties and independents in Lebanon. The two groups were also divided along religious lines,with most Sunnis and Druze supporting the government,and most Shi'a supporting the opposition. The Christian community was split between the two factions,with Michel Aoun,the leader of the FPM,claiming to have more than 70% support among the Christians,based on the results of the 2005 parliamentary election.

The formation of a new government led by Najib Mikati follows five months of negotiations after the fall of the Saad Hariri government. Mikati formed a controversial 30-minister cabinet. Following ruptures and tensions and two previous threats to resign,Mikati finally resigned on 23 March 2013. Tammam Salam was tasked to form a new government on 6 April 2013.

A new Lebanese cabinet led by Prime Minister Hassan Diab was formed in Lebanon on 21 January 2020,after agreement was reached by the heads of the involved political parties after nearly three months. The already delegitimized government assigned Diab and his new cabinet,despite ongoing public outrage against the new cabinet and citizen requests for a competent,independent,and technocratic government. The marketing campaign by the authoritative powers around the new cabinet were mired by obvious untruths such as Diab claiming to have met "representatives of the thawra" but turned out to be regime supporters or the regime using the term "techno-political" to describe the new cabinet in order to justify the majority partisan appointments. Diab was appointed prime minister by President Michel Aoun following the resignation of Saad Hariri following the 2019–20 Lebanese protests,that started in October 2019. On 10 August 2020,the government resigned following public anger over the 2020 Beirut explosions on 4 August but continues to govern as a caretaker government.
