Sam Irwin (born 25 October 1992) is an Australian professional rugby league footballer who last played for Featherstone Rovers in the Kingstone Press Championship. He plays as a hooker and halfback and previously played for the Gold Coast Titans in the National Rugby League.

Background

Born in Darwin, Northern Territory, Irwin played his junior rugby league for the Nightcliff Dragons in the Darwin Rugby League competition before being signed by the Burleigh Bears in the Queensland Cup in 2010. [3]

Playing career

In 2011, Irwin joined the Gold Coast Titans. He played for the Titans' NYC team in 2011 and 2012. [4] In round 6 of the 2013 NRL season, Irwin made his NRL début for the Gold Coast against the Parramatta Eels. [5] On 11 September 2014, Irwin signed a two-year contract with the Featherstone Rovers starting in 2015. In 2016, Irwin played for the Tweed Seagulls in the Queensland Cup competition. [6]

The 2014 Gold Coast Titans season was the 8th in the club's history. Coached by John Cartwright and co-captained by Greg Bird and Nate Myles, they competed in the NRL's 2014 Telstra Premiership. During the second half of the season Cartwright resigned, and his position as head coach was taken by assistant coach Neil Henry for the remainder of the season. Gold Coast finished the regular season in 14th and failed to qualify the finals for the fourth consecutive year.

The 2015 Gold Coast Titans season was the 9th in the club's history. Coached by Neil Henry and captained by Nate Myles, they competed in the NRL's 2015 Telstra Premiership. Gold Coast finished the regular season in 14th and failed to qualify for the finals for the fifth consecutive year.
