Sammakka Sarakka Central Tribal University (SSCTU) is a public central university. [1] [2] It was established in Mulugu, Telangana, India by the Act of Parliament- Act 36 of 2023 by an amendment to the Central Universities Act, 2009.

History

On 7 December 2023, the Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha.

The university will offer graduate, postgraduate and doctoral level programmes. The university has been named “Sammakka Sarakka Central Tribal University” on the Mother and Daughter deities of Tribes of the region. [3]

Ramappa Temple, also known as the Rudreshwara temple, is a Kakatiya style Hindu temple dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva, located in Palampet village, Mulugu district, Telangana, India. It is 15 km (9.3 mi) from Mulugu, 66 km (41 mi) from Warangal, 209 km (130 mi) from Hyderabad. An inscription in the temple says it was constructed in the year 1213 CE by Recharla Rudra Reddy—a general of Kakatiya ruler Ganapati Deva. Located in the vicinity of Ramappa Lake, the Ramappa Temple complex which consist of three temples was constructed between 1212 and 1234, designed and architect by Ramappa—after whom the temple complex is named. Marco Polo, during his visit to the Kakatiya empire, supposedly called the temple "the brightest star in the galaxy of temples". In July 2021, Ramappa Temple was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Medaram is a village in Mulugu district, Telangana, India. A popular religious festival called Sammakka Sarakka Jatara takes place biennially in this village. Sammakka Sarakka Jatara held by forest dwelling Koya tribe of Telangana and surrounding States, is the biggest Tribal festival in Asia which is attended by two crore people on an average. The event is held biennially to honour the goddesses Sammakka and her daughter Sarakka. Several communities in Telangana society support Jatara as it is also a mythical narrative of two tribal women leaders who fought against the Kakatiya rulers who tried to annex their land and forests. According to the myth it was Sammakka’s curse which caused gradual decline and death of Kakatiya rule. Sammakka and her daughter saramma protesting there tribal lands and forest.

Sammakka Saralamma Jatara is a festival to honour the Hindu Tribal goddesses, celebrated in the state of Telangana, India. This Jatara is known for witnessing one of the largest human gatherings in the world. People offer Bellam (jaggery), locally called as Bangaram, to the deities. The Jatara begins at Medaram in Tadvai Mandala in Mulugu district. The rituals related to the Goddesses are entirely performed by the Koya Tribe priests, in accordance with Koya customs and traditions.

Eturnagaram Wildlife Sanctuary is a wildlife sanctuary located in Eturnagaram village in Mulugu district in Telangana, India. It is located 100 km (62 mi) from Warangal and 250 km (160 mi) from Hyderabad. It is a integrated tribal development town.

Mulugu is a town in Mulugu district, Telangana. It is the headquarters of the district, which was formed in 2019 after Jayashankar Bhupalpally district was split. Prior to the reorganization of districts that created Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, Mulugu was a part of the Warangal district. It lies on National Highway 163.

Telangana Shakuntala was an Indian actress who worked in the Telugu cinema. She was known chiefly for playing comedy and villainous characters in Tollywood. Her performances in movies like Osey Ramulamma, Nuvvu Nenu, Lakshmi, Okkadu and Veede were well received. She also acted on television and in Tamil-language films, where she is known for her role as Sornakka in Dhool. She was well known for her ability to speak in the Telangana and Rayalaseema dialects of the Telugu language and thus majority of her roles in Telugu cinema exhibited this.

Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU), is a Central University located in Madhya Pradesh, India established in 2007 and named after former Indian prime minister Indira Gandhi.The university started its operations in 2008 from a temporary campus in Amarkantak and later shifted to its own campus in Lalpur, 23 kilometers away. The university was established to promote education in the backward tribal regions of India. IGNTU opened a regional campus in Manipur in 2009. A regional campus of the university was sanctioned in 2010 to be in Kalahandi district but it did not materialize. Later in 2023 a Team consisting of Ministry of Tribal Affairs and IGNTU officials conducted a survey in Mayurbhanj district for setting up of the university's third campus. The University was ranked 11th best in India by IIRF in 2024.

Sammakka Sagar Barrage is a barrage across Godavari River at Thupakulagudem Village, Eturnagaram Mandal, Mulugu District of Telangana State. It stabilizes the existing irrigated area of 2,51,310 Hectare under J. Chokka Rao Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme and 3,04,000 hectares of Sriram Sagar Project stages I & II with 50 TMC of water. Another 50 TMC will be used for providing drinking water to villages en route.

Telangana Lokayukta is the parliamentary ombudsman formed by the erstwhile of Andhra Pradesh under the Andhra Pradesh Lokayukta and Upa-Lokayuktas Act, 83 and adapted by Telangana after getting bifurcated from Andhra Pradesh. The institution was designed to as a high level statutory functionary for the state of Telangana for addressing the public complaints against the state government officials and its administration and is independent of the governing political and public administration. The Act became Law from 1 November'83. The passage of Lokpal and Lokayukta's Act, 2013 in Parliament had become law from 16 January 2014 and had mandated every state in India to appoint its Lokayukta within a year of its passing. The mission of the Institution of Lokayukta is to eradicate the evil of corruption, favouritism, abuse of position and Power among the public functionaries and improve efficiency and to create cleaner image of the top public functionaries and promote fairness and honesty.

Sakini Ramachandraih was an Indian vocal folk singer and Dhol player from the Bhadradri town in the Telangana State in India. He was known for his expertise in "Kanchumelam-Kanchuthalam" an art form particularly identified with the Koya tribal community in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. This art form is almost on the verge of extinction and Ramachandraih was the only surviving practitioner of the art who could narrate the history of the sacred festival "Sammakka Sarakka Jathara" in both the Telugu and Koya languages in its totality. In the year 2022, the Government of India honoured Ramachandraiah by conferring the Padma Shri award for his contributions to art.

Sammakka Sarakka is a 2000 Telugu-language action drama film directed by Dasari Narayana Rao starring himself, Roja, Ramya Krishna and Prakash Raj.
