Samuel Gaskin is a New Zealand born musician based in Australia. In 2020 he debuted his stage show RECKŌNING: Te Waiata Paihere Wairua at the Melbourne Fringe Festival, and released a song of the same name as a single in 2021.
Born in New Zealand, Samuel moved to Australia when he was eight months old and grew up around Melbourne. [1] At age 19 he embarked on a career in dancing and in 2008 landed the role as Mowgli in Australian Shakespeare Company's TheJungle Book, his theatre debut. [2]
In 2010 Samuel released music as Sam-G on Triple J Unearthed, a website where independent musicians can share their music. Three of his songs entered the top ten Electronic Chart in May 2010, with his song Gank reaching number one. [3] In 2014 he collaborated with Congo Tardis #1 on their song Marathon, and in 2016 he released two new singles, "Good Enough" and "Love". [4] after signing with Razor Recordings. [5] The songs' creation were funded through Kickstarter and Samuel donated all royalties from "Good Enough"'s Australian digital sales to the mental health organisation Beyond Blue. [6]
In 2020 Samuel and his partner Johnny Hamilton debuted their stage show RECKŌNING: Te Waiata Paihere Wairua at the Melbourne Fringe Festival. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Australia, the show was staged without an audience and instead a recording from Hammer Hall was made available to stream. [7] The show, which combines Indigenous Australian and Māori New Zealand song and culture, won four awards, including Best Emerging Indigenous Artist, and toured Brighten Fringe. [8] In 2021 the song RECKŌNING from the show was released as a single and was hailed by Rolling Stone Australia as a "cultural tour de force". [9] The song and video features The Merindas, who also appear in the stage show. At the end of 2021, RECKŌNING: Te Waiata Paihere Wairua returned to the Melbourne Fringe Festival.
Outside of music and theatre, Samuel has acted in several TV series, such as an episode of each of Neighbours and Utopia , and appeared as a judge on All Together Now in 2018. [10]

Moana Maree Maniapoto is a New Zealand singer, songwriter and documentary maker. Widely considered one of New Zealand's most successful indigenous acts, her music is described as a fusion of traditional Māori haka, chants and taonga puoro, with contemporary soul, reggae and classical styles. Moana was briefly married to New Zealand politician and radio personality Willie Jackson, during which time she was known as Moana Maniapoto-Jackson; they divorced in 2001. In 2016, Moana was inducted into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame.

Hirini (Sid) Melbourne was a Māori composer, singer, university lecturer, poet and author who was notable for his contribution to the development of Māori music and the revival of Māori culture. He played traditional instruments and his waiata (songs) have preserved traditions and used Māori proverbs. He received the New Zealand Order of Merit in recognition of his services to Māori music. He was from Ngāi Tūhoe and Ngāti Kahungunu Māori tribes.
Stan Walker is an Australian-born New Zealand singer, actor, and television personality. In 2009, Walker was the winner of the seventh and last season of Australian Idol. He subsequently signed a recording contract with Sony Music Australia. In December 2009, Walker released his debut studio album, Introducing Stan Walker, which included the hit single, "Black Box". "Tukituki Te Manawa" is a song by New Zealand band Drax Project, performed in Māori language. It was the band's second song released as a part of the Waiata / Anthems project, with their first being a re-release of their 2017 single "Woke Up Late" for the 2019 Waiata / Anthems compilation album. An unreleased song by the band originally written in English, "Tukituki Te Manawa" translated into Māori by Hinewehi Mohi and Sir Tīmoti Kāretu and released on Christmas Day 2020. In 2021, the song was the subject of an episode of a TVNZ OnDemand documentary series, documenting the creation of music for Waiata / Anthems.
Dame Hinewehi Mohi is a New Zealand musician and producer, best known for her double-platinum album Oceania (1999) and its lead single "Kotahitanga (Union)", performing the New Zealand National Anthem in Māori during the 1999 Rugby World Cup, and as a producer for the 2019 Māori language compilation album Waiata / Anthems.
Paul Anthony Williams is a New Zealand comedian and musician. Williams plays the role of Taskmaster's assistant on the New Zealand version of the international television series Taskmaster, and is one of the show's principal writers. Sons of Zion is a six-member New Zealand reggae band who formed in 2007 in Pakuranga, Auckland. They became widely famous in New Zealand in early 2018, due to the popularity of their single "Drift Away".
Maimoa is a New Zealand musical group. Formed from current and former presenters from the Māori Television show Pūkana, the group debuted in 2016 with the single "Maimoatia", which was released to celebrate te Wiki o te Reo Māori. Since their debut, the group has continued to release pop singles sung in te Reo Māori, including "Wairua" (2017), a viral hit produced by members of the New Zealand band Sons of Zion.
"35" is a song by New Zealand youth choir Ka Hao featuring musician Rob Ruha. "35" was the group's first single, and preceded the release of their debut album Ka Hao: One Tira, One Voice. The song, performed primarily in Māori, was a sleeper hit, first entering the New Zealand Singles Chart in Te Wiki o te Reo Māori in September 2021 and peaking at number 12 in November. "35", alongside New Zealand band Six60's song "Pepeha", are the best performing songs sung in Māori since Stan Walker's "Aotearoa" (2014).
