Sandeep Dikshit (born 15 August 1964) is an Indian politician, development manager and educator. He is the son of former Chief Minister of Delhi, Sheila Dikshit. He was a member of the 15th Lok Sabha of India. [1] He represented the East Delhi constituency of Delhi and is a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) political party. [2]

Early life

Sandeep Dikshit was born to former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Vinod Dikshit, [3] an IAS officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre.

Sandeep holds a Masters degree in history from St. Stephens College, and received his post-graduate diploma in Rural Management in 1989 at the Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA). [4]

Career

Before entering active politics, Sandeep Dikshit headed a social development group Sanket Information and Research Agency Pvt. Ltd which pioneered the first sub-national Human Development Report in the world in 1996. [5] [6] He is currently a faculty member at O. P. Jindal Global University, Sonepat. [7]

In June 2019, he triggered a controversy when he likened behavior by the Indian Chief of the Army Staff General Bipin Rawat to that of a "goon on the street" and apologized later via Twitter. [8]

Personal life

He is married to Mona Dikshit. [3] They have a daughter. [3]

Aam Aadmi Party Delhi or AAP Delhi is a state wing of Aam Aadmi Party. AAP became a state party in Delhi in 2013. The party contested its first election in Delhi in 2013 and was successful in winning 28 seats in a hung assembly. It got outside support from Indian National Congress and Arvind Kejriwal became the Chief Minister of Delhi but he resigned after 49 days due to differences with INC. In the following 2015 elections, AAP won 67 of the 70 seats in the assembly, limiting BJP at just 3 seats and INC with none and Kejriwal was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Delhi. AAP formed the government again in the subsequent 2020 Delhi Legislative Assembly election, winning 62 seats.
