Sandon Smith (born 6 December 2002) is an Australian professional rugby league footballer who plays as a halfback or five-eighth for the Sydney Roosters in the National Rugby League.
Smith progressed through the Roosters Central Coast pathways system playing for the Kincumber Colts, earning the club's Rising Star award in 2018. In 2021, Smith played SG Ball for the Roosters, earning SG Ball player of the year honours. [2]
Smith progressed to NSW Cup leading the comp in try and line-break assists. In Round 14 2023, Smith made his NRL debut for Sydney against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs at Central Coast Stadium, coming off the bench in 25–24 win.
Smith played 15 matches for the Sydney Roosters in the 2023 NRL season as the club finished 7th on the table and qualified for the finals. Smith played in both of the clubs finals games as they were eliminated in the second week against Melbourne. [3]
Smith played 15 games for the Sydney Roosters in the 2024 NRL season as they reached the preliminary final before being defeated by Melbourne. On 17 October, Smith had been charged over a car crash that happened back in March 2024. Smith was charged with negligent driving causing serious bodily harm and failing to give way. [4] [5]
Jake Friend is an Australian former rugby league footballer who played as a hooker. He spent his entire first-grade career, spanning 2008 to 2021, with the Sydney Roosters in the National Rugby League (NRL); at the time of his retirement, he was the club's co-captain. Friend won three premierships with the Roosters, in 2013, 2018 and 2019. Internationally, Friend represented Australia in a Test in 2016.

Melbourne fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen was awarded the Clive Churchill Medal as the official man of the match. The match was attended by 37,303 spectators due to an enforced limit to stadium capacity by the NSW government as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in Australia. The game would be the last for Melbourne hooker and captain Cameron Smith after announcing his retirement in the following year, making him the most-capped player in the NRL with 430 games, and the most for a single club.
