Thakur Sangeet Som is a BJP politician based in Sardhana,Meerut. He is former Member of Legislative Assembly from the Sardhana constituency.
Sangeet Som was born in affluent agricultural family of Thakur Omveer Singh in Village Alamgeer (Faridpur) in Sardhana Tehsil of Meerut District. He completed his Secondary Education from K.K. Jain Inter college Khatauli a nearby city in Muzaffarnagar District in 1997. Sangeet Singh Som is married to Preeti Som Sangeet and has two children. [1]
Sangeet Singh Som won from the Sardhana assembly seat with good margin. He is a very popular figure among the Hindu population of the area and has received various titles like “Hindu Hirday Samrat”,"Mahathakur," "Sangharshveer," etc. by different Hindu organizations.
He is one of the accused in the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots [2] and was booked under the National Security Act on 24 September 2013. [3] Justice Vishnu Sahai Commission's report on Muzaffarnagar riots of 2013 has put him on top of the list of those it has found responsible for the flare-up. [4] On 18 January 2017,Som was booked for showing clips from the riots as part of a documentary. [5]
On 7 September 2015,Som alleged that the Samajwadi Party and the Uttar Pradesh police were discriminating on religious grounds in their probe in the Janmashtami clashes,which he said was biased. [6] Contested Indian General Election 2009 from Muzaffarnagar (Lok Sabha constituency) as Samajwadi Party candidate and finished third.
Sangeet Singh Som was named in legal cases related to the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots. [7] A special MP/MLA court in Muzaffarnagar accepted the closure report submitted by a special investigation team (SIT) of the Uttar Pradesh police in a case against BJP MLA Sangeet Som who allegedly uploaded a video on social media and others who shared it,triggering communal riots in Muzaffarnagar in 2013. [8]
On 13 October 2022,a Gautam Budh Nagar Court found Som,guilty of giving hate speech and convicted him under section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant). He was fined and released. [9]
Despite being known as an anti-cow-slaughter campaigner,documentary evidence revealed that Som had been personally associated with two meat processing and export companies,Al-Dua and Al-Anam. [10] [11] [12] Al-Dua has been described as one of India's leading halal meat export companies which exports meat to Arab countries. [10] Speaking with the Hindustan Times on October 9,2015,Som claimed he was unaware of having been made a director of Al-Dua,and that as a "Hindu hardliner" it was not possible for him to engage in such an activity. [11] However,the next day,Som admitted to The Hindu that he was a director of Al-Dua for about two years. [10] As per The Hindu,Al-Dua's company website states:"Al Dua Food Processing are specialists in the export of quality halal buffalo,sheep/lamb,goat meat and hides." [10]
On 11 February 2017,the day of the first phase of the 2017 Assembly election,Som's brother was arrested in Faridpur for carrying a pistol into a polling booth. [13]
Som favoured imprisoning Mohammed Akhlaq's family who died in the 2015 Dadri lynching. [7] He also promised bail for the arrested accused in the case. [14]
On 9 November 2018,Singh claimed that Muzaffarnagar should be renamed Lakshminagar. [15]

The clashes between the Hindu and Muslim communities in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh,India in August–September 2013,resulted in at least 62 deaths including 42 Muslims and 20 Hindus and injured 93 and left more than 50,000 people displaced. By date 17 September,the curfew was lifted from all riot affected areas and the army was also withdrawn.

The 2014 Saharanpur Riots occurred on 25 July 2014 in the city of Saharanpur in the state of Uttar Pradesh in India. The riots occurred between Muslims,led by Samajwadi Party leader Muharram Ali Pappu,and Sikhs,led by Shri Guru Singh Sabha,over a territory and religious differences. Three people were killed and several were injured. The ruling Samajwadi Party alleged that it was an act of RSS,the BJP blamed ISI and the UP police allege that the riot was well planned to divide members of the two minority communities.

Kairana and Kandhla migration row refers to persecution and mass migration of Hindu families from Kairana and Kandhla in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh during the period 2014–16. Media sources have stated that the migration was due to threats of extortion from a Muslim Extremist Mukim Kala,described as a "gangster." NHRC reports and accounts of several eyewitnesses also states that the Muslims in Kairana town pass lewd/taunting remarks against Hindu females and due to this,they avoid going outside frequently.

Kuldeep Singh Sengar is an Indian politician and former member of Legislative Assembly belonging to the Bhartiya Janta Party from Unnao district,Uttar Pradesh who has been convicted of rape,murder,attempt to murder,criminal conspiracy and criminal intimidation. He is the main defendant in the Unnao rape case and was booked under the POCSO Act. He is also accused of killing three people,including the victim's father in police custody and later her aunts by a conspired truck accident. A Delhi District and Sessions Court upheld an investigation conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) that had ruled out any foul play in the Unnao rape survivor's accident in 2019.
The 2015 Dadri lynching refers to case of lynching in which a mob of villagers attacked the home of 52-year-old Mohammed Akhlaq,killing him,for suspicion of slaughtering a cow. The attack took place at night,on 28 September 2015 in Bisahda village,near Dadri in Uttar Pradesh,India. The mob consisting of local villagers,attacked Akhlaq's house with sticks,bricks and knives,saying that they suspected of him stealing and slaughtering a cow calf. Mohammad Akhlaq Saifi died in the attack,and his son,22-year-old Danish,was seriously injured. Later an Indian court found prima facie evidence of meat that may have been either mutton or beef,and ordered registration of a first information report (FIR) against Akhlaq. Then the state government changed the original report and concluded that he was not storing beef for consumption.
The Eighteenth Uttar Pradesh Assembly is formed by the members elected in the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election. Elections for 403 seats of the state,were conducted in seven phases from 10 February 2022 to 7 March 2022 by the Election Commission of India. The votes were counted and results were declared on 10 May 2022.
