Sanjiv Goenka (born 29 January 1961) [7] is an Indian billionaire entrepreneur. [8] He is the founder and chairman of RPSG Group and an early-stage investor. With a US$6 billion asset base and US$4.3 billion revenue, this multinational conglomerate is headquartered in Kolkata. He also owns the IPL cricket team Lucknow Super Giants [9] and the Investor of the ISL football team Mohun Bagan. [10] As per the Forbes 2022 report, [11] he is the 83rd richest person in India and overall 1238th in the world. He was also a member of Padma award committee 2023. [12]

Early life

Goenka was born to Sushila Devi Goenka and Rama Prasad Goenka a business man in a Marwari Family and raised in Kolkata.

Education

An alumnus of St. Xavier's College, Kolkata, Goenka received his Bachelor of Commerce Degree in 1981. [14]

He was embroiled in a controversy in the aftermath of his team Lucknow Super Giants heavy defeat in IPL 2024 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad where he was filmed having an animated conversation with captain KL Rahul following which many fans and commentators raised an objection to his high-handed and aggressive behaviour. Rama Prasad Goenka was the founder and chairman Emeritus of the RPG Group, a multi-sector Indian industrial conglomerate. Born in 1930, he was the eldest son of Keshav Prasad Goenka and grandson of Sir Badri Prasad Goenka, the first Indian to be appointed Chairman of the Imperial Bank of India. His two younger brothers were Jagdish Prasad and Gouri Prasad. On Keshav Prasad Goenka's death, his businesses were split between the three brothers. Rama Prasad Goenka, established RPG Enterprises in 1979.

The club competes in the Indian Super League, the top tier of Indian football league system. The club is most notable for its victory over the East Yorkshire Regiment in the 1911 IFA Shield final. This victory made Mohun Bagan the first all-Indian club to win a championship over a British club and was a major moment during India's push for independence.

The team is owned by RPSG Group, who previously owned the Rising Pune Supergiant franchise between 2016 and 2017, and is captained by KL Rahul and coached by Justin Langer.

Lucknow Super Giants is a franchise cricket team based in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. They play in the Indian Premier League (IPL); the team's debut season was the 2022 edition of the IPL.

The 2022–23 ATK Mohun Bagan FC season was the club's 3rd season in Indian Super League and 133rd season since its establishment in 1889. Due to lengthened schedule of 2022 AFC Cup, the knockout stage is moved to 2022–23 season from 2021–22 season as it is to be played in September 2022. Club also took part in 2022 Durand Cup and 2023 Indian Super Cup. The principle team owner, Sanjeev Goenka, announced after winning the 2023 Indian Super League Final that ATK Mohun Bagan will be rebranded as Mohun Bagan Super Giant from the next season.

The 2024 season was the 3rd season for the Indian Premier League franchise Lucknow Super Giants. They were one of the ten teams competed in the 2024 Indian Premier League. They finished at the 4th place in previous season after losing the Eliminator to Mumbai Indians.
