He represented India in 275 international matches in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, the 1990 World cup, 3 Champions Trophy tournaments, 2 Asian Games and 2 Asia Cups. Ballal became a household name in India when he saved two tie-breaker goals in the 1998 Bangkok Asian Games final against South Korea. India, captained by Ballal, went on to win the Asiad hockey gold at Bangkok after a gap of 32 years.
Sushil Kumar is a former Indian wrestler and two-time Olympic medallist. His 2008 Olympic medal was only the second for India in wrestling, and the first since Khashaba Dadasaheb Jadhav's bronze medal at the 1952 Summer Olympics. As a politician he contested the 2013 Delhi Legislative elections on an Aam Aadmi Party ticket, but lost. Subsequently, in 2014, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Sandeep Kumar is an amateur Indian-born Australian freestyle wrestler, who played for the men's light heavyweight category. Kumar moved to Melbourne, Australia permanently in 2004 to pursue more opportunities in the sport of wrestling, and was officially granted citizenship three years later. He also worked as a taxi driver in order to raise funds for his trip to the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Kumar is the brother of Anil Kumar, who competed in the same discipline at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain.
