Sapna Book House is an Indian book store chain and a publisher of books. [9] It is one of the biggest book shops in India. [10]

Contents

The Limca Book of Records recognised Sapna as the largest book shop in India, for seven years in a row. [6] [11] The Government of Karnataka presented the Karnataka Rajyostava Award to Sapna Book House, describing it as the largest Kannada book publisher, in 2008. [6] As of May 2016, Sapna Book House has published more than 5000 books by 500 writers, including Jnanpith and Central Sahitya Academy awardees. [6]

Around sixty percent of the store includes books and the rest of stationery, multimedia products, and sports items etc. [12] [13] [14] It has its export of over 5,000 books in Kannada language, to the Kannadigas settled in Brazil. [15] Its online business [16] has eight million users. [15]

A store chain was started by Sapna Book House, named Store67 which included stationery products for students. [3] [17]

SapnaINK

A platform SapnaINK, [18] was started by Sapna Book House in December 2014, for new authors to publish their books. [19]

Background

Sapna Book House was started by Suresh Shah, on 26 January 1967 near Majestic, Bangalore on a rent-based store, and later as an independent mall in Gandhi Nagar, Bangalore, [12] initially selling Lilliput dictionaries. [3] Born in Ghatkopar, Mumbai, Maharastra, Suresh Shah's ancestors belonged to Dhoraji, Gujarat. [4] Suresh Shah previously worked as head of Mumbai-based Pocket Book Distributing Company's new branch in Chennai [3]

Currently his eldest son Nitin Shah, is the Managing Director [12] and grandson Nijesh is the Group President of Sapna Book House and CEO of Sapna Infoway. [3] [8] [7] The company has 5 directors namely Paresh Suresh Shah, Deepak Suresh Shah, Nitin Suresh Shah, Bhanumati Suresh Shah and Suresh Shah. [5]

2014

Sapna Infoway acquired Ishita Technologies Private Limited (including Bookadda.com, Acadzone.com and Koolskool.com) at a value of $13 million. [1] In May, it extended its business by setting up offices in Accra, Ghana. [3] [20] As on December, the group's online revenue touched the Rs 6.5-7 crore mark. [15]

He also authored Ganga-gauri-vilasa, a yakshagana (verse-play) in Telugu. He is commemorated with various statues and memorials and many places are named after him in Bangalore.

Puneeth Rajkumar, affectionately known as Appu by his fans, after his first lead role in the movie Appu, was an Indian actor, philanthropist, playback singer, television presenter and producer, who worked in Kannada cinema. He was the youngest son of actor and matinee idol Dr. Rajkumar. He was one of the most popular actors in Kannada cinema. He appeared as a lead in 32 films. As a child, he appeared in many films. His performances as a child actor in Vasantha Geetha (1980), Bhagyavantha (1981), Chalisuva Modagalu (1982), Eradu Nakshatragalu (1983), Bhakta Prahaladha (1983), Yarivanu (1984) and Bettada Hoovu (1985) were praised. He won the National Film Award for Best Child Artist for his role of Ramu in Bettada Hoovu. He also won Karnataka State Award Best Child artist for Chalisuva Modagalu and Eradu Nakshatragalu. Puneeth's first lead role was in 2002's Appu. In a career spanning three decades, he has won one National Film Award, four Karnataka State Film Awards, six Filmfare Awards South and five SIIMA awards. He was conferred with the Doctorate by Mysuru University. The Karnataka Government conferred the state's highest civilian award, Karnataka Ratna, to Puneeth Rajkumar on 1 November 2022, posthumously.

He became a household name for his work Nityotsava, which is a poem about Karnataka, a piece he composed after seeing Jog falls. He has numerous poems, translations and children's books to his credit. He is known for using simple words that resonate deeply with the public in his literary work.

M. Chidananda Murthy was a Kannada writer, researcher and historian. He was a well-known scholar in Karnataka specializing in the history of Kannada language and ancient Karnataka. He was also known for his campaign to conserve the monuments Hampi and to secure classical language status to Kannada Language. Murthy also articulated that uniform civil code and an anti-conversion law must be enacted by the Government in India.

The Rajyotsava Prashasti or Rajyotsava Awards, the second highest civilian honor of the Karnataka state of India are conferred annually by the Karnataka Government on the occasion of the establishment of the state on November 1, celebrated as the Kannada Rajyotsava.

Gudibande Poornima(Dr. S.P Poornima) is a Kannada poet, writer and novelist from the State of Karnataka, India. Born in Shravanabelagola, Hassan District, Karnataka, Poornima holds a master's degree in Kannada literature from Bangalore University, master's degree in Prakrit and Docotorate degree in Jainalogy from Mysore University. She was the president of the district Kannada Sahitya Parishat in 1982–3.

Samyuktha Hegde is an Indian actress who predominantly works in Kannada and Tamil films. She made her film debut with the Kannada film Kirik Party opposite Rakshit Shetty, directed by Rishab Shetty. She played the role named Arya, for which she won Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress – Kannada. She made her debut in Tamil language through Comali opposite Jayam Ravi and Kajal Agarwal.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2018 Karnataka Legislative Assembly election</span> Indian state election

The 2018 Karnataka Legislative Assembly election was held on 12 May 2018 in 222 constituencies to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. The election was postponed in Jayanagar and Rajarajeshwari Nagar, following the death of the MLA B. N. Vijaya Kumar and a voter fraud scandal respectively till 28 May. The election saw a voter turnout of 72.13 per cent, the highest in Karnataka since several decades. The counting of votes took place on 15 May 2018.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Hebbal-Kittayya inscription</span>

The Hebbal-Kittayya 750CE Inscription is one of the oldest known inscriptions in Kannada script and is Bangalore's oldest inscription. The inscription was re-discovered on 1 May 2018 in Hebbal. The inscription is on a Ooralivu Veeragallu in honour of Hebbal native Kittayya. Ooralivu veeragallu’s are memorial stones erected in honour of a person martyred defending an attack on his or her town.
