The School of Social Sciences is an academic unit of the University of California,Irvine (UCI) that studies the social sciences. The School is the largest academic unit in the university with an enrollment of over 5,300 students. More than a third of the bachelor's degrees conferred at UCI are from the School of Social Sciences. It is home to the departments of Anthropology,Chicano-Latino Studies,Cognitive Science,Economics,Logic and Philosophy of Science,Political Science,International Studies,and Sociology.

Suzanne A. Blum is an American professor of chemistry at the University of California,Irvine. Blum works on mechanistic chemistry,most recently focusing on borylation reactions and the development of single-molecule and single-particle fluorescence microscopy to study organic chemistry and catalysis. She received the American Chemical Society's Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award in 2023.
Vy Maria Dong is a Vietnamese-American Professor of Chemistry at the University of California,Irvine (UCI). Dong works on enantioselective catalysis and natural product synthesis. Candice Lynn Odgers is a developmental and quantitative psychologist who studies how early adversity and exposure to poverty influences adolescent mental health. Her team has developed new approaches for studying health and development using mobile devices and online tools,with a focus on how digital tools and spaces can be improved to support children and adolescents. Odgers is currently a professor of Psychological Science at the University of California,Irvine and a research professor at Duke University. Odgers is also the co-director of the Child and Brain Development Program at the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research.
Barbara Dosher is an American scientist and academic specializing in neurology of human memory and attention processes. She is the former dean of the School of Social Sciences and a Distinguished Professor of Cognitive Sciences at University of California,Irvine. She is also the director of the Memory Attention Perception Lab at UC Irvine. Dosher is a member of the National Academy of Sciences. Dosher received the 2018 Atkinson Prize in Psychological and Cognitive Sciences.
Kathleen R. Johnson is an American member of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians who is a geologist and paleoclimatologist. Her research focuses on reconstructing past climate change with speleothems,on active cave monitoring to understand the interaction of climate with speleotherm geochemistry,and analyzes climate and paleoclimate data to investigate natural climate variability. She earned a PhD from the University of California Berkeley in 2004 and is an associate professor at the University of California Irvine.

Ann Marie Grover Carlton is an American academic working as a professor of chemistry at the University of California,Irvine,with expertise in atmospheric chemistry. She is a reviewing editor for the journal Science,and the winner of multiple awards and fellowships,notably the quadrennial Roger Revelle Fellowship for Global Stewardship from the American Association for the Advancement of Science. In this fellowship,she advised the Biden administration on climate and the environment in the Office of Science and Technology Policy,beginning in September 2021. Early in the COVID-19 pandemic,she was a proponent of the theory of airborne transmission of the virus,consequently appearing as an expert guest on NPR. She is the scientific leader on the Southern Oxidant &Aerosol Study (SOAS),the largest U.S. atmospheric chemistry field project in decades,for which the short documentary Skycatcher was made.
