The Sarawak State Library (Malay : Pustaka Negeri Sarawak) is the state library of Sarawak, located in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. It was established in 1999 with the passing of the Sarawak State Library Ordinance 1999 [3] by the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly. The official opening of the main campus in Kuching on 31 December 1999 was attended by Abdul Taib bin Mahmud, the Chief Minister of Sarawak. Services for the public started on 2 January 2000.

History

The story of Pustaka started in May 1993 when Dr. David Jones, [4] the Library Building Consultant of the State Library of New South Wales visited Kuching and had few discussions with senior officers of the Sarawak Civil Service, including the State Secretary, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Hamid Bugo. Following these J. discussions and earlier work by Stephen J. Parker [5] entitled "Developing public library services in Sarawak", Dr. David Jones began to prepare a design brief. The first draft of the design brief was ready at the end of same year. The project was then called the State Library and Information Technology Centre. On 23 June 1994, the design brief which had gone various draft stage was presented to the State Cabinet and subsequently approved.

The Darjah Utama Yang Amat Mulia Bintang Sarawak is the highest state order in the state of Sarawak. It is conferred to those who rendered excellent service towards the development of the state of Sarawak and Malaysia. The Order was established in 1964, a year after Sarawak's independence with the formation of Malaysia. The history of the order can be traced back to 1928, where a similar order named Order of the Star of Sarawak was established by the White Rajahs. However, the revived order has no connection with the previous order, except for the similarity of the name of the order. The motto of the Order is based on the state motto and the current one was adopted in 1988. The design of the order ribbon was changed twice, first in 1973 and again in 1988. The design follows the colors of the Sarawakian flag: blue, red and white, and yellow, black and red. Both the Officer of the Star of Sarawak (JBS) and Officer of the Star of Hornbill Sarawak (JBS) share the same necklace design.

Abdul Aziz bin Dato Haji Husain is the current Chairman of Eksons Corporation Bhd, a public listed entity that has two plywood plants in Sabah and Sarawak. He is involved in the real estate sector through Eksons' subsidiary Atmosphere Sdn Bhd.

They are responsible for the governance of football at all levels in Sarawak, developing youth football squad, women development squad, developing and guidance amateur clubs, coaching education etc. The association is also sometimes referred to FA Sarawak as to differentiate it from the Football Association of Selangor who used the same abbreviation of FAS and are also under the same parent body, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).

The 2024 Sukma Games, officially known as the 21st Sukma Games is a multi-sport event that will be held in Sarawak. Johor was supposed to host the 20th edition of the Games in July 2020, but were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the 20th edition took over by the National Sports Council (NSC) in September 2022. This will be Sarawak's third time to host the Sukma Games since its first time in 1990, and second time in 2016.
