Sarsfields LFC Laois is a Ladies' Gaelic Football Association club based in Mountmellick in County Laois. It fields teams in Ladies' football from juvenile up to adult.

At adult level, the club fields football teams at Senior and Junior grades. [1] The club colours are blue and amber.[ citation needed ] Sarsfields uses the same crest as Mountmellick GAA.[ citation needed ]

History

Sarsfields LFC was set up in 1995 for girls from the Mountmellick parish area (also for Rosenallis) who wished to play football. [2]

The new club was called Sarsfields, a named derived from earlier teams in the Mountmellick area in the past. [3]

Sarsfields won their first Laois Ladies Senior Football Championship in 2008. [4]

Sarsfields are one of the most successful ladies football clubs in Laois having won the Laois Ladies Senior Football Championship 9 times during which they set won a record 7 years in a row from 2013 to 2019. [5] They also made 16 consecutive appearances in the Laois Ladies Senior Football Championship final from 2006-2021.[ citation needed ]

They have won the Leinster Ladies' Senior Club Football Championship 3 times (2008,2013,2014).[ citation needed ]

In 2022, their second team won the Laois Junior Football Championship. [6]

The Laois Ladies' Senior Football Club Championship has been running since 1976 - 46 finals. The competition has seen seven clubs winning the title, with St Conleths winning the latest in 2021, captained by Mary Cotter. The final has been played in a number of grounds around the county, often in O'Moore Park. The cup is named after Lulu Carroll who was one of Laois' greatest ever ladies' footballers. The winners progress on into the provincial championship and Laois has a good record for a small county, having won the Leinster championship on 14 occasions. All-Ireland glory has proven more elusive, however, with The Heath securing Laois' only two titles, in 1985 & 1986.

Lisgoold GAA Club is a gaelic football, hurling and ladies football club based in the village of Lisgoold, County Cork, Ireland. The club draws its support from Leamlara, Ballincurrig, Peafield and Lisgoold itself. The club fields teams in Cork GAA and Imokilly GAA divisional competitions.
