Satchel's has become very well known in Gainesville, and can have wait times of over an hour on the weekends. [2] It is common for Gainesville residents to see bumper stickers from Satchel's when driving around town. [3]

On February 28, 2012, the restaurant caught fire. [4] It reopened on June 14 of the same year. [5] [6] During the downtime, Satchel Raye used Indiegogo to raise funds for its 47 employees. Nearly 700 people made contributions in a 16-day period, providing a total of $37,696 to the restaurant. [7]
On December 5, 2016, the restaurant's outdoor seating area and gift shop, known as Lightnin' Salvage, caught fire and was destroyed. The restaurant itself was unharmed and remained open. [8] In November 2017, Raye announced plans to reopen Lightnin' Salvage as a two-story building. [9]
The gift shop and live music venue reopened on December 5, 2017. [10] A grand reopening event was later held on June 1, 2018. [11] [12]
In 2018, a new outdoor playground was built by University of Florida architecture students. [11]
In February 2020, Raye announced that he would be opening a second location named Satch² in a downtown food park. [13] The new location was officially opened on July 20, 2020. [14] It was later sold off to a new owner and renamed SquareHouse Pizza in June 2023. [15]
In May 2022, the University of Florida's new food provider Chartwells proposed the creation of a Satchel's Pizza location on campus during their contract negotiations. [16]
Satchel's Pizza has periodically organized fundraisers for local and national charities, including a $4,000 donation to Girls on the Run. [17]

Machen had been the president of the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah and the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. He also sits on the Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute's Board of Trustees. On June 8, 2012, Machen announced he would be stepping down as president in 2013. However, Machen was asked by state and university leaders to stay on, as the school had not yet found a suitable replacement. He was finally succeeded by W. Kent Fuchs on January 1, 2015.

Its most famous restaurant is under the Brooklyn Bridge in Brooklyn at 1 Front Street, next door to its original location. Zagat Survey rated Grimaldi's the No. 1 Pizzeria in New York in 2007. With a carry-out and delivery service model in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, in 2022 it had 43 restaurants in operation overall. It does not sell slices, only whole pies, which are cooked by coal-fired brick ovens. It also sells wines and appetizers, as well as calzones. Among desserts are cannoli and tiramisu, as well as New York–style cheesecake.
Newell Hall is a historic site in Gainesville, Florida, United States. It is located in the northeastern section of the University of Florida. On June 27, 1979, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Murphree Area is an historic residence hall complex on the northern edge of the University of Florida campus in Gainesville, Florida. Michael Dwayne Holloway is an American college track and field coach. Holloway is the current head coach of the Florida Gators track and field and Gators cross country programs of the University of Florida. He is best known for leading the Florida Gators men's indoor track and field team to three consecutive National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I national championships in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2018, and 2019. Holloway's Gators won a fifth NCAA Division I indoor national championship in 2019. Additionally, the Florida Gators men's outdoor track and field teams won the NCAA Division I national championship in 2012, 2013, 2016, and 2017 under Holloway's leadership. In 2022, he led the women's indoor track and field team to its second national title and first in 30 years. In addition, Holloway led the Gators to a double NCAA title team slam, winning the 2022 men's outdoor track and field NCAA championship as well as the 2022 women's outdoor track and field NCAA championship, the first in program history.

The history of the University of Florida is firmly tied to the history of public education in the state of Florida. The University of Florida originated as several distinct institutions that were consolidated to create a single state-supported university by the Buckman Act of 1905. The oldest of these was the East Florida Seminary, one of two seminaries of higher learning established by the Florida Legislature. The East Florida Seminary opened in Ocala 1853, becoming the first state-supported institution of higher learning in the state of Florida. As it is the oldest of the modern University of Florida's predecessor institutions, the school traces its founding date to that year. The East Florida Seminary closed its Ocala campus at the outbreak of the American Civil War and reopened in Gainesville in 1866.

The Ballpark also served as the initial home field for the University of Florida's football and baseball teams when they were established during the 1906-1907 academic year.
