Saturday Matters with Sue Lawley was a short lived, late night chat show presented by Sue Lawley, which aired on BBC One in late 1989. Originally intended as a breakout show for Lawley, who up until that point was best known as a BBC news presenter, although she had already proven her ability as a chat show host through being a regular stand-in for Terry Wogan in his own show Wogan.
Saturday Matters departed from the format of traditional, light entertainment-oriented contemporary talk shows of the period such as Aspel and Company, Parkinson and the aforementioned Wogan, in that it invited the guests to also discuss topics of current affairs as well as their own lives. The very first guest was the then Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson. Two days after the show aired, Ferguson revealed she was pregnant with her second child and the show and Lawley were criticised for not having discovered this as part of the interview. Lawley's fawning interview with Cliff Richard was also heavily criticised.
The show was axed after one series, following poor ratings.

Zoe Louise Ball is a British radio and television presenter. She was the first female host of both Radio 1 Breakfast and The Radio 2 Breakfast Show for the BBC, and presented the 1990s children's show Live & Kicking, alongside Jamie Theakston from 1996–1999.
Parkinson is a British television chat show that was presented by Michael Parkinson. It was first shown on BBC1 from 19 June 1971 to 10 April 1982 and from 9 January 1998 to 24 April 2004. Parkinson then switched to ITV on which the show continued from 4 September 2004 to 22 December 2007. A parallel series was shown in Australia on the ABC between 1979 and 1982. A series entitled Parkinson One to One was produced by Yorkshire Television from 28 March 1987 to 23 July 1988.

Tubridy Tonight is a talk show hosted by Ryan Tubridy that aired on RTÉ One for five seasons between 2004 and 2009. The programme featured guest interviews, audience participation and live music from both a guest music group and the house band. In an episode of The Russell Brand Show broadcast on BBC Radio 2 on Saturday 18 October 2008, comedian Russell Brand and presenter Jonathan Ross made prank calls to actor Andrew Sachs that created controversy in the United Kingdom. Brand and Ross called Sachs to interview him on air; when he did not answer, they left lewd messages on his answering machine, including comments about Brand's relationship with Sachs' granddaughter Georgina Baillie.
