Sawan Aya Re (The Monsoon Has Come) is a 1949 Hindi romantic drama film, directed by Kishore Sahu. [1] [2] Produced by Sahu under his "Hindustan Chitra" banner, [3] it had Khemchand Prakash as the music director. [4] The cast included Kishore Sahu, Ramola Devi, David, Pratima Devi, Ramesh Gupta, Sofia and Mohana. [5]
The film was a romantic triangle set against the backdrop of a hill station, Nainital. A family arrives on a holiday, but the father is more keen on finding bridegrooms for his three daughters.
Anand (Kishore Sahu) lives in Nainital with his mother (Pratima Devi). They meet the Mathur family who have recently arrived there for holidays. The father wants to get his three daughters Asha, Sudha and Rama married and is hoping to find some suitable boys for them. When Asha and Anand meet they form a friendship, which is readily accepted by the two families who decide to get them married. However, Asha finds out that Anand and Sudha are in love with each other.
The film did well commercially, with Baburao Patel of Filmindia remarking in the 1949 May edition that Sahu's estimate had risen due to the "original treatment" he gave to an "otherwise ordinary" story. [6]
The music director was Khemchand Prakash. The notable songs were "Ae Dil Na Mujhe Yad Dila" sung by Khan Mastana, "Mein Toh Gawan Chali" by Shamshad Begum, and "Nahin Faryaad karte Hum" also sung by Shamshad Begum. [7] The four lyricists were Gulshan Jalalabadi, Arzoo Lakhnavi, Rammurti Chaturvedi and Bharat Vyas. The playback singers were Shamshad Begum, Amirbai Karnataki, Laita Devulkar, Mohammed Rafi and Khan Mastana. [8]

Khemchand Prakash was a music composer in the Hindi film industry. He had few peers in 1940s, the decade for Indian film music which started with Saigal very active on the scene and ended with Lata Mangeshkar firmly established in the industry. Lata had fruitful association with him when she started making a name for herself.
Kishore Sahu was an Indian actor, film director, screenwriter, and producer. He appeared in 22 films between 1937 and 1980, and he directed 20 films between 1942 and 1974.
Dard (Pain) is a 1947 Bollywood drama film directed by Abdul Rashid Kardar. The film was produced by Kardar Productions. It was a surprise "musical hit" at the box office as it had an ordinary star cast. Suraiya played the second lead, with Munawwar Sultana as the main heroine. The film was Suraiya's first "big hit", becoming a popular singing star following the success of the film. The hero of the film was Kardar's brother Nusrat (Kardar), who shifted to Pakistan following Partition in 1947, where he acted in a few films.
Khilona is a 1942 social Hindi film directed by Sarvottam Badami. The film was produced at Ranjit Studios by Amar Pictures. It had music by Khemchand Prakash with lyrics by Pandit Indra Chandra. Khilona was one of the major films which brought the actress Snehprabha Pradhan into prominence. The cast included Snehprabha Pradhan, P. Jairaj, Prabha, Satish, Kanhaiyalal and Pratima Devi.
Kismet Ka Khel is a 1956 Hindi social crime drama film, produced and directed by Kishore Sahu. Made under "Sahu Films Ltd.", the story and screenplay were by Kishore Sahu, with dialogue by Ramesh Gupta. The music was composed by Shankar Jaikishan, while the lyricists were Shailendra and Hasrat Jaipuri. The main actress was Vyjayantimala, while Sunil Dutt played the hero, with his acting being commended in the film. The ensemble cast included Begum Para, Yashodhara Katju, Mukri, Kamaljeet, Jagdeep, Bhudo Advani, Tun Tun and Moni Chatterjee.
Shararat (Mischief) is a 1944 Hindi comedy film directed by Kishore Sahu. Produced by Hindustan Chitra Productions, it had music by S. N. Tripathi and Khan Mastana. Following the commercial success of his earlier comedy film Kunwara Baap (1942), Sahu made another comedy with Shararat, which he not only directed and wrote the story for, but also cast himself in the main role. The actors co-starring with him were Maya Banerji, Protima Dasgupta, Ramesh Gupta, Sushil Sahu and Moni Chatterjee.
Sindoor is a 1947 Hindi social film directed by Kishore Sahu. The film was produced Sasadhar Mukherjee Productions for Filmistan and had the actor Mehmood in one of his early films. The story, dialogues and part of the lyrics were written by Kishore Sahu. One of the lyricists was Qamar Jalalabadi, with music composed by Khemchand Prakash. The film starred Kishore Sahu, who played the hero, with Shamim Bano, Paro Devi, Gulab, Mehmood, Pratima Devi, Sushil Sahu and Moni Chatterjee.
Veer Kunal also called Son Of Ashoka is a 1945 Hindi historical fiction film directed by Kishore Sahu. Besides directing the film Sahu also produced it and wrote the story and screenplay. The cinematographer was Chandu. Produced under the Ramnik Productions banner, it had music by Khan Mastana. The starcast consisted of Kishore Sahu, Shobhna Samarth, Durga Khote, Mubarak and Maya Banerji.
Sajan (Boyfriend) is a 1947 Hindi romantic film directed by Kishore Sahu. The film was produced by Filmistan and had music by C. Ramchandra. The story and screenplay were by Kishore Sahu. The film had Rehana in the female lead, and following the success of this film, as well as Shehnai (1947), she became an "overnight star". The cast included Ashok Kumar, Rehana, Ramesh Gupta, Anant Prabhu and Leela Mishra.
Raja is a 1943 Hindi film directed by Kishore Sahu. It was the first film from the newly established "Purnima Productions". A social satire, it starred Kishore Sahu and Protima Das Gupta in the lead. The music was composed by Khan Mastana, and Kishore Sahu sang the songs picturised on him. The rest of the cast included Ramesh Gupta, Gulab, Moni Chatterjee, Badri Prasad and Rani Bala.
Holi is a 1940 Hindi/Urdu social drama film directed by A. R. Kardar. Holi was produced by Ranjit Movietone and had music composed by Khemchand Prakash with lyrics by D. N. Madhok. It had Khursheed and Motilal starring in the lead with Sitara Devi, Ishwarlal, Keshavrao Date, Dixit, Ghory and Manohar Kapoor.
Jeevan Prabhat is a 1937 Hindi film social drama, produced by Bombay Talkies and directed by Franz Osten. The music director was Saraswati Devi with lyrics and dialogues by J. S. Casshyap. The screenplay was by Niranjan Pal. The film's "star value" was Devika Rani, with Kishore Sahu making his debut as an actor in the film. The cast included another debutant, Renuka Devi, with Mumtaz Ali, Maya Devi and M. Nazir.
Bhabhi (Sister-in-Law) is a 1938 social family drama Hindi film directed by Franz Osten. The film was based on a Bengali novel written by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay called "Bisher Dhoan". Bandyopadhyay was a famous Bengali novelist and short story writer also known as the creator of the fictional detective Byomkesh Bakshi. The cinematographers were Wirsching and Pareenja. Dialogues and lyrics by J. S. Casshyap. V. H. Desai, the comedian, got his "big break" in Bhabhi when he joined Bombay Talkies. He became popular as the nervous father of the heroine Renuka Devi. S. N. Tripathi started his acting with a small role in the film. The film had the new found Renuka Devi in the lead.
