Saweety Boora, also known mononymously as Saweety, is an Indian boxer who competes in the middleweight weight class. She won the gold medal at 2023 IBA Women's World Boxing Championships and silver medal class at the 2014 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships in the light heavyweight category.
Boora was born on 10 January 1993 in rural Hisar, Haryana. Her father Mahender Singh, a farmer, played basketball at the national level. [2] Boora was a state-level kabaddi player before switching to boxing in 2009 at the insistence of her father. She initially trained in the farmlands near Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University and had to move out of Haryana in order to pursue a career in the sport. [3] [4] Her younger sister Siwi Boora also took up boxing.
On 7 July 2022, Boora married Deepak Niwas Hooda. [5]
At the 2014 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships in Jeju City, Boora won the silver medal in the light heavyweight (81 kg) event after losing the final to China's Yang Xiaoli. [6] Boora was the only Indian to reach the final of an event at the 2015 Asian Women's Amateur Boxing Championships in Wulanchabu [7] where she settled for silver after losing to the same opponent. [8]
In 2017, Boora received Government of Haryana's Bhim Award for her sporting achievements in the 2015–16 season. [9] In 2018, she changed her weight class from light heavyweight (81 kg) to middleweight (75 kg) as the former is not part of the Summer Olympics. [3] She was eliminated in the pre-quarterfinal round of the 2019 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships. [10]
On 12 February 2024, Sweety Boora joins Political Party BJP with his Husband Deepak Niwas Hooda.
She became the 7th Indian boxer (male or female) to be crowned World Champion after defeating Wang Lina of China by 4–3 on 25th March 2023 in the Light heavyweight category.

Mangte Chungneijang "Mary" Kom is an Indian Olympic boxer, politician, and former Member of Rajya Sabha. She is the only woman to win the World Amateur Boxing Championship six times, the only female boxer to have won a medal in each one of the first seven World Championships, and the only boxer to win eight World Championship medals. Nicknamed Magnificent Mary, she was the only Indian female boxer to have qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics, where she competed in the flyweight (51 kg) category and won a bronze medal. She had also been ranked as the world's No. 1 female light-flyweight by the International Boxing Association (amateur) (AIBA). She became the first Indian female boxer to win a gold medal in the Asian Games in 2014 at Incheon, South Korea and is the first Indian female boxer to win gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. She is also the only boxer to become Asian Amateur Boxing Champion for a record six times. Mary Kom won the 51kg gold in President's Cup in Indonesia.
Vikas Krishan Yadav is an Indian boxer from Bhiwani district in Haryana, the hub of some of India's best boxers. He won a gold medal in the 2010 Asian Games in the Lightweight category and a gold medal in 75 kg weight category at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. He is one of the best boxers of India. Deepak Ram Niwas Hooda is an Indian professional Kabaddi player and the former captain of India national kabaddi team. He was part of the Indian team which won gold medal at the 2016 South Asian Games. He has also featured in all the seasons of the Pro Kabaddi League. Deepak is regarded as one of the best all rounder in the Pro Kabaddi League history.
