Scum is a hardcore punk/black metal supergroup formed in 2002 with members from Amen, Emperor, Zyklon, and Turbonegro. All members are Norwegian except for American vocalist Casey Chaos. According to the band, their idea is to play "black metal with a real punk rock attitude". [1]

History

Scum was formed in 2002 by Casey Chaos, Samoth, Faust, Cosmocrator and Happy-Tom. [2] Scum's debut album, Gospels for the Sick , was recorded in one single studio session in 2004 and released in September 2005. The band has performed live a handful of times, including an appearance at the Norwegian Øyafestivalen in 2005 and a performance at Camden Underworld in London. The band had guest appearances from several artists, one of which was Mortiis, who co-wrote and performed on the song "Speaking in Tongues", released in 2021.

Associated acts

Scum's band members have played in several other bands. Guitarist Samoth played in many bands including notable black metal bands like Emperor, Gorgoroth, Satyricon, Zyklon, Thou Shalt Suffer, Arcturus and Zyklon-B, and did sessions for Ildjarn and Burzum. Drummer Faust contributed to the music of Emperor, Aborym, Zyklon, Thorns and several less notable bands like Impostor, Blood Tsunami, Death Fuck, Decomposed Cunt and Stigma Diabolicum. Cosmocrator played for Windir, Zyklon, Source of Tide and Mindgrinder. Vocalist Casey Chaos writes and records everything apart from drums for his band, Amen, and also provides vocals for Damned Damned Damned and Grindhaller XXX. Happy-Tom plays bass guitar for Turbonegro. [1]

He was one of the founders, as well as the sole songwriter, of the band Bathory, which pioneered the black metal genre and is credited with creating the Viking metal style. A multi-instrumentalist, Quorthon wrote the music and lyrics on all of Bathory's albums and performed vocals and guitars.

Samoth is a Norwegian guitarist and multi-instrumentalist in the country's black metal scene. He is well known for his distinct guitar work and drumming in the band Emperor, as well as his formation of the death metal band Zyklon. In very early Emperor releases, he was called Samot, and with the formation of Zyklon he became known as Zamoth. Samoth was the owner of the record label Nocturnal Art Productions and had a close relationship with Candlelight Records.

Zyklon was a Norwegian blackened death metal band formed in 1998 by Samoth and Trym of Emperor, along with members of Myrkskog. Thou Shalt Suffer were a band that was part of the early Norwegian black metal scene. It formed in 1990 at Akkerhaugen, Norway, under the name "Dark Device". Its style was mainly death metal, though it included some black metal traits, alongside Ihsahn's trademark keyboard melodies. The band split up in late 1991 when its members formed Emperor and Ildjarn.

Bård Guldvik "Faust" Eithun is a Norwegian drummer and convicted murderer, known primarily for his work with black metal band Emperor. He has also contributed lyrics to Zyklon and been a member of Thorns. In 1993, Eithun was sentenced to 14 years in prison for murder. He was released in 2003 and has since continued performing as a drummer for Emperor, Djevel, Blood Tsunami, Aborym and Scum.
