The Seattle Channel, cable channel 21 in Seattle, Washington, United States, is a government-access television (GATV) channel that operates out of the Seattle City Hall building. It also operates an extensive website. On CenturyLink Prism, Seattle Channel is available on channels 8003 (SD) and 8503 (HD). [1] Seattle Channel provides coverage of select Seattle mayoral news conferences and city council meetings, and produces a wide range of award-winning original content. Feature shows include Art Zone, City Inside Out, CityStream, Civic Cocktail, and Community Stories.

At the 2019 Northwest Emmys, the Seattle Channel brought home five awards, gaining more accolades for well-established programs: Art Zone with Nancy Guppy, and CityStream.

Seattle Channel is a part of the information technology department of the City of Seattle.

Services

The Seattle Channel streams video recorded content on their website and YouTube page 24/7. Programs are archived on the web for future viewing on seattlechannel.org. All content on the Seattle Channel is downloadable and accessible in service to the City of Seattle. According to the city policies, [2] the Seattle Channel and its contents belong to the residents of Seattle.

Art Zone

Originally titled Art Zone in Studio, Art Zone with Nancy Guppy premiered on the Seattle Channel in 2008. [3] It has won nine Northwest Emmy awards [4] and hosted many notable artists native to Washington State, including Parisalexa, [5] Duff McKagan, Mike McCready, and Benicio Bryant. Host Nancy Guppy became well known in the Seattle area for her work as a cast member of KING-TV's comedy show Almost Live! , where she worked for 15 years. [6] [7]

Art Zone is known for its performances and interviews at the Seattle Georgetown Stables. This weekly program focuses on the Seattle art scene, diving deep into local talent and telling artists stories through interviews and media visuals.

CityStream

CityStream is a weekly feature magazine program that focuses on organizations, people and places in Seattle. It is often hosted by local contracted broadcast journalists/television hosts such as Enrique Cerna, Jeff Renner, and Lori Matzukawa. CityStream is a longstanding show on the Seattle Channel. In 2019, the show won an Emmy Award in the sports category for an episode on the Special Olympics USA Games.

Civic Cocktail

Civic Cocktail is a co-produced show between the Seattle Channel and Seattle City Club. [8] The show invites local public figures, often in government, who contribute to a discussion led by a host with a live studio audience, mainly community members from the Seattle area. Attendees must pay a fee to partake in the Civic Cocktail event, which are distributed as season passes or individually. The location of the filming varies. Notable episodes include "Seattle: Dying or Trying...and Changing" and "Civic Cocktail: City Council Election Analysis + How Voters Shape Seattle". There is a question and answer segment on every show, allowing Seattle residents to ask leaders and panel speakers any questions they might have concerning the topic of discussion. Civic Cocktail is taped each month from February to June, and from October to November. [9]

City Inside Out

City Inside Out is hosted by Brian Callanan, who was a reporter and news anchor at Q13 FOX from 2000 to 2011. [10] The show has weekly guests, highlighting local issues and engaging in educational discussion. It is a 30-minute weekly program, composed of field reporting/interviews and studio segments. Guests on the show include Joshua Baba, Tara Moss, and Ashley Archibald. [11]

City Inside Out has a Council Edition, where local lawmakers and politicians come on and engage in conversation with host Brian Callanan.

Almost Live! was a local sketch comedy television show in Seattle, Washington, USA, produced and broadcast by NBC affiliate KING-TV from 1984 to 1999. A re-packaged version of the show also aired on Comedy Central from 1992 to 1993, and episodes aired on WGRZ-TV and other Gannett-owned stations in the late 1990s. The show was broadcast on Saturday nights at 11:30, pushing Saturday Night Live back to midnight.

Free Speech TV (FSTV) is an American progressive news and opinion network. Check, Please! is a multi-Emmy Award winning restaurant review program that began on Chicago's PBS member station WTTW in 2001. The show's popularity inspired spin-offs in several other markets. A San Francisco version of the show, Check, Please! Bay Area, began its first season in 2005, airing on KQED. A Miami version for WPBT, Check, Please! South Florida, debuted in January 2008. Bally Sports Detroit American regional sports network

Bally Sports Detroit (BSD) is an American regional sports network owned by Diamond Sports Group that operates as a Bally Sports affiliate. It provides coverage of local sports teams in the state of Michigan, primarily focusing on those in Metro Detroit. World of Wonder (company) American production company known for its LGBTQ programming

World of Wonder Productions is an American production company founded in 1991 by filmmakers Randy Barbato and Portsmouth-born Fenton Bailey. Based in Los Angeles, California, the company specializes in documentary television and film productions with a key focus on sexuality, erotica, and the sexual subculture. Together, Bailey and Barbato have produced programming through World of Wonder for HBO, Bravo, HGTV, Showtime, the BBC, Netflix, and VH1 with credits including the Million Dollar Listing docuseries, RuPaul's Drag Race, and the documentary films Mapplethorpe: Look at the Pictures (2016) and The Eyes of Tammy Faye (2000).

Waxie Moon in Fallen Jewel is a 2011 pop-art musical comedy from cult filmmaker, Wes Hurley. It stars the renowned performance artist, Marc Kenison as his gender-bending burlesque personae Waxie Moon, as well as The Stranger Genius-award winners, Sarah Rudinoff, Marya Sea Kaminski and John Osebold, Nick Garison, Keira McDonald, Sage Price, Brandon Petty, Erin Emlyn Badenhop, Inga Ingenue, Lou Henry Hoover, with memorable cameos by Jinkx Monsoon, Lynn Shelton and Jackie Hell, among others. The film also features an original soundtrack with music by Campfire OK, Jose Bold, Gretta Harley, We Are Golden, The Little Penguins and Brendan Patrick Hogan. Two songs were arranged and recorded exclusively for the film by Eric Lane Barnes - his original composition "Everything is on Fire" performed by Sarah Rudinoff and a techno version of "Cold Song" performed by Nick Garison. Wade Madsen, Anna Allen, Inga Ingenue and Waxie Moon choreographed the film's many dance sequences. Several hundred looks were created for over 200 performers by the costume and makeup designer, Harmony Arnold. The Genius-award winner Jennifer Zeyl served as the art director for the film.

Nancy Guppy is an American comedian and television personality from Seattle, Washington, U.S. She is perhaps best known from her time as a writer and cast member of KING-TV's Seattle-centric sketch comedy program Almost Live!, which ran for 15 years (1984-1999).

Tonya Mosley American radio journalist

Tonya Mosley is an Emmy and Murrow award-winning radio and television journalist and podcaster. Mosley co-hosts NPR and WBUR's midday talk show Here & Now along with Robin Young and Scott Tong. In 2015, she was awarded the John S. Knight journalism fellowship at Stanford. She hosts the podcast Truth Be Told, an advice show about race from KQED.
