Seenu Ramasamy (born 13 October 1973) is an Indian film director, screenwriter and poet who predominantly works in Tamil cinema. He is known for directing quality films like Thenmerku Paruvakaatru (2010), [1] Neerparavai (2012), [2] Dharma Durai (2016), [3] and Maamanithan (2022). [4]

Career

He made his directorial debut with Koodal Nagar (2007). [5] He garnered acclaim for the film Thenmerku Paruvakaatru , which went on to win the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil. [6] [7] A critic noted that "A well-crafted screenplay, clearly defined characters, a smooth, realistic flow of scenes, and fine performances from its entire cast, makes 'Thenmerku Paruvakaatru' one of the more watchable films of recent times". [8] His next film Neerparavai (2012) also released to positive reviews with a critic stating that "Neer Paravai is a beautiful record of the lives of a community, their hopes and dreams, and the harsh reality of their lives. Go and see it". [9] Ramasamy's next film Idam Porul Yaeval got stuck in production. [10] His next film Dharma Durai (2016) received polarized reviews from critics, [11] [12] but was a box-office success. [13] His subsequent film Kanne Kalaimaane (2019) released to mixed reviews with a critic stating that "Though Kanne Kalaimaane tries to be an ambitious film, despite much potential for drama, it lacks a strong script that most Seenu Ramasamy films have". [14]

Thenmerku Paruvakatru is a 2010 Indian Tamil-language drama film written and directed by Seenu Ramasamy and produced by Shibu Issac. The film is named after a song composed by A. R. Rahman for the film, Karuthamma. It stars Vijay Sethupathi, Vasundhara Kashyap and Saranya Ponvannan in her 100th film, which won her Best Actress at National film Awards. The music was composed by N. R. Raghunanthan with cinematography by Chezhiyan and editing by Mu. Kasivishwanathan.

Ezhilmaaran S. is an Indian film director who works in the Tamil film industry. He made his directorial debut with the 1999 romance film Thulladha Manamum Thullum. His success streak continued with Pennin Manathai Thottu (2000), Poovellam Un Vasam (2001) and Deepavali (2007). He made a comeback in 2012 after a brief sabbatical with Manam Kothi Paravai which opened to moderate reviews from critics but was a commercial hit. He has won two Tamil Nadu state awards. Neerparavai (transl. Seabird) is a 2012 Indian Tamil-language drama film directed and co-written by Seenu Ramasamy, and produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin. It stars Vishnu and Sunaina, while Nandita Das plays the older version of the latter's character. Saranya Ponvannan, Samuthirakani, Varsha Ashwathi, and Anupama Kumar play supporting roles. The music is composed by N. R. Raghunanthan with cinematography by Balasubramaniem and editing by Kasi Viswanathan. The film was released on 30 November 2012 to positive reviews from critics and did well at the box-office.
