The simplest possible semidiones are derived from 1,2-dicarbonyls and have structure R−C(−O−)=C(−O•)−R' ↔ R−C(−O•)=C(−O−)−R', making them the second member of a homologous series starting with ketyl radicals and continuing with semitriones.
