FutureSex/LoveSounds is the second studio album by American singer-songwriter Justin Timberlake. Released on September 8, 2006, by Jive Records and its affiliated label of the Zomba Group of Companies. During a two-year hiatus, Timberlake resolved his feelings on being unable to record any new material, and as he returned to record some new music, he began collaborating with his longtime record producer Timbaland, alongside the latter's colleague Danja. The album's contents were produced at Timbaland's Thomas Crown Studios. The album shares some lyrical themes with Timberlake's debut album Justified (2002), although FutureSex/LoveSounds was influenced by a wider range of genres, including trance, funk and rock. The reprises and interludes interspersed on the album's tracks were created by the production team with the goal of channeling Timberlake's influences.

Production was helmed by Mason and Thomas under their production moniker The Underdogs, with Tank credited as co-producer of the song. "Sideline Ho" was released as the album's third single in the first quarter of 2007. "Hot Like Fire" is a song by American singer Aaliyah from her second studio album One in a Million. The song was written by both Missy Elliot and Timbaland with the latter producing the song. Musically the song has a "jeep-friendly" bouncing beat and it also features ad-libs from Timbaland. Lyrically the song is very suggestive with Aaliyah promising that she is worth the wait and that it will be worth it if her potential lover waits until she is ready. The song was re-recorded and released as the album's fifth single by Blackground and Atlantic records on September 16, 1997. Upon its release the song was met with generally positive reviews from critics, with many praising both Aaliyah's delivery and the song's production. In the US, "Hot Like Fire" barely charted on any of the major Billboard charts, largely overshadowed by the success of its other A-side "The One I Gave My Heart To". On the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart the song within the top 40 at number 31.
