Shürhozelie Liezietsu (born 20 November 1936) is an Indian politician from Nagaland. He was the 11th Chief Minister of Nagaland. He also served as the president of Naga People's Front.
Shürhozelie was born on 20 November 1936 in Kohima Village to an Angami Naga family. He did his initial schooling in Mission Public School,Kohima and completed his matriculation from Kohima Government High School in 1956. He completed his graduation from St. Edmund's College,Shillong. He started his career as a clerk in state secretariat before switching to teaching. [1]
He also has an interest in gardening apart from writing and politics. He was also the president of Ura Academy,the state's highest literary body and was conferred an honorary D.Litt. by the Nagaland University in year 2003. [1]
He entered politics in year 1969 and was one of the founding members of Nagaland's first regional party United Democratic Front (UDF) and later Naga National Democratic Party (NNDP). [1] In 2002 he was crucial in the formation of Nagaland's People Front (NPF). [1] In 2003 he was elected to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly as the Naga People's Front candidate in the constituency Northern Angami-I (ST). [1] After the election,he was appointed Minister for Urban Development. [2] [3]
He retained his constituency in the 2008 election, [1] and was then appointed Minister for Urban Development for a second time with an additional portfolio of Higher and Technical Education.
He voluntarily did not contest the 2013 State Assembly election [1] and remained as Chairman of the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland with cabinet status and allowed his son Khriehu Liezietsu to successfully contest the election. Khriehu Liezietsu was later inducted as Advisor for Youth Resources and Sports and Music Task Force.
He is also one of the founding members of the first regional party in Nagaland (UDF,later NDP and presently Naga People's Front). [1] He has been Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) eight times and held several important portfolios in a political career spanning nearly five decades. [1] On 22 February 2017 he was sworn in as 17th Chief Minister of Nagaland. [4] He is one of the most decorated educationists in Angami language literature and has authored more than 40 books on poetry,novels,history,drama,translations and several of his books are part of syllabus in Nagaland University. The Naga People's Front (NPF) is a regional political party in Nagaland,Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh. It headed the Nagaland government with the Bharatiya Janata Party,as part of the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland from 2003 to 2018. NPF is coalition partner of N. Biren Singh ministry led BJP government in Manipur. The party ideology includes Conservative Christianity,thus encouraging it. It demands and supports greater autonomy for Naga areas and Naga cultural Nationalism.
The Naga National Democratic Party is a regional political party in Nagaland,India,founded in 1964. The party was formed from a merger of the United Democratic Front and the Naga National Party. John Bosco Jasokie is the party leader.
Neiphiu Guolhoulie Rio is an Indian politician who is serving as the 9th and current Chief Minister of Nagaland since 2018,previously 2003 to 2014 and from 2018 till date. He served as the Chairman of United Democratic Alliance (Nagaland) and was former leader of the NPF Legislature Party and former Leader of Opposition in Nagaland Legislative Assembly.He represents the Peren Assembly constituency in Nagaland Legislative Assembly since 2008.
Hokishe Sema was an Indian politician who served as the third Chief Minister of Nagaland and the fourth Governor of Himachal Pradesh. He was also a member of the drafting committee of Naga People's Convention.
Z. Obed was a prominent public figure in Nagaland. He was one of the first local Nagas to have cleared the UPSC exams and selected as an IAS officer. He served the government of Nagaland as an IAS officer in various capacities and eventually rose to the highest position in the bureaucracy as the Chief Secretary to the Government of Nagaland in 1980. After his retirement,he was called to contest the Assembly elections by his supporters in Kohima and so he waded in to the political arena and contested as an INC candidate from the Kohima Town constituency and was elected as an MLA in the 1993 Assembly elections. Due to his vast experience and stature as a public servant of integrity,Mr. Obed was appointed as the Minister of Urban Planning in Chief Minister S.C. Jamir's cabinet. In 2003,he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Nagaland again as the Nagaland People's Front candidate in the constituency Kohima Town (ST) and was once more appointed as the PHE Minister in Chief Minister Niphiu Rio's cabinet.
P. Shilu Ao was an Indian politician who was involved in the negotiations leading to the creation of Nagaland,in the north-eastern part of India,as one of the states and territories of India in December 1963. Ao then served as the first Chief Minister of Nagaland until August 1966. Ao played a part in persuading the Indian Government and the Lok Sabha to grant Nagaland separate statehood but was not able to reconcile many Naga nationalists who regarded him and his party,as stooges of the central government.

An election was held on 27 February 2018 in 59 out of 60 constituencies of the Legislative Assembly of Nagaland. The scheduled election in Northern Angami II constituency did not take place as only incumbent MLA Neiphiu Rio was nominated and was therefore declared elected unopposed. The counting of votes took place on 3 March 2018.
