Shailendra Pandya (born 27 March 1987) is an Indian child rights activist [1] and was former member of the Rajasthan State Commission for protection of Child Rights, Government of Rajasthan. [2] He is a founder of Gayatri Seva Sansthan. [3] [ failed verification ] [4]

Early life and education

He was born in 1987, in Udaipur, Rajasthan; and graduated in computer engineering from University of Rajasthan in 2009. He went to the Janardan Rai Nagar Rajasthan Vidyapeeth University. After completing his master's degree in social work in 2012, Pandya began his professional career for protection of child rights and then joined Rajasthan State Commission for Protection of Child Rights as state in charge of Child Labour Cell, where he was involved in policies and programs for eradication and rehabilitation of child labour [5] [6]

Notable works

In 2019, in a interstate rescue he saved 138 children from Surat, with Rajasthan Police, they were brought to work in various jobs. [7] 128 of the rescued children were from Rajasthan. [8]

On 12 June 2022, he was involved in a 'Child Labour Free Udaipur' project. [9] where 91 children were rescued from various workplaces and the registration of 17 FIRs were registered, against 54 employers. and later sixty of the rescued children were re-enrolled in education. [10] He is known for his work during the COVID-19 pandemic when he conducted a Situational Analysis of Tribal Child Labour, [11] where 865 migrant children returning to their villages during pandemic to educational facilities, for rehabilitation and identified families of child laborers. [12] Then he worked with the district administration, creating a helpline to report cases, which prevented 15 child marriages. [6] [13] He was speaker at Tedx Pradhikaran at D Y Patil Vidyapeeth Pune, 2023.

Bachpan Bachao Andolan is an India-based children's rights movement. It was started in 1980 by Nobel Laureate Mr. Kailash Satyarthi. Neemach Mata Temple is located on a hill on the banks of the Fateh Sagar Lake in the city of Udaipur, Rajasthan,India. This temple is located on a green hill in the Dewali area of Udaipur. It has both stairs and uphill slope walk way to climb, which is around 900 metres long. It enshrines the stone idol of Neemach Mata Devi. There is also an idol of Lord Ganesh and three west-facing lions of stone.

A significant proportion of children in India are engaged in child labour. In 2011, the national census of India found that the total number of child labourers, aged [5–14], to be at 10.12 million, out of the total of 259.64 million children in that age group. The child labour problem is not unique to India; worldwide, about 217 million children work, many full-time.

The Orh is a drifting tribe of labourers in Sindh, Gujarat, Kathiawar, and some parts of Rajasthan. They drift and shift lock, stock, and barrel with their families wherever work is to be done. They are said to hold a variety of occupations. As artisans, they are carpenters, masons and stoneworkers and were considered to be Dalits. As traders, they deal in grain, spices, perfumes, and cloth. They are spread across 40 villages in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. In reality, Odh is a word for people who built mud huts rather than a caste; yet, but it is used as a caste in Pakistan. They claim their original name was Sagarbansi or Sagarvanshi they bear surnames like Gadahi, Bhagat, Galgat, Kharwar, Kahlia, Kudavali, Maangal, Majoka, Mundai, Sarvana, and Virpali.

The Commissions for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005 is a law enacted by the Parliament of India, which provides for constitution of National commission and state commissions for the rehabilitation, prosperity and wellness of children. The act further provides constitution for establishment of children's court where the offenses against children rights or exploitation of child rights be trialed speedily.

The National Child Labour Project (NCLP) Scheme is a scheme by the Ministry of Labour and Employment of India. The Government of India initiated it in 1988 to rehabilitate children aged from 9 to 12 years. The project has expanded to cover 312 districts in 21 states. The identified children are withdrawn from the hazardous work and provided with the facilities such as non-formal education, vocational training, midday meal, a stipend of Rs.150/- per child per month, and healthcare through a doctor appointed for a group of 20 schools. The NCLP project since its inception in 1988 has managed to rescue around 1.2 million children who tell about how child labour escapes from the eyes of the state and managed to reproduce its presence across sectors.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Vishvaraj Singh Mewar</span> Maharana of Mewar and politician
