Shajoon Kariyal is an Indian film director and producer working in Malayalam cinema.

Life

Shajoon started his film career in 1984, at the age of 21, as an assistant director to I. V. Sasi. [2] He worked as the assistant or associate director to many films including Uyarangalil (1984), Anubandham (1985), Karimpinpoovinakkare (1985), Aavanazhi (1986), 1921 (1988), Douthyam (1989), Varthamana Kalam (1990), Arhatha (1990), Midhya (1991), Neelagiri (1991) and Varnapakittu (1997). [3]

He debuted as a director with Rajaputhran (1996), starring Suresh Gopi, Shobhana and Vikram. He has directed many films, including Thachiledathu Chundan (1999) and Vadakkumnadhan (2006). [2] After Vadakkumnadhan, he planned two films, Raman Police and Talkies, but both the projects did not work out. [4] In 2012, he directed Chettayees which he also co-produced, as one of the five partners of the newly launched production house Thakkaali Films. [5] In 2015 he directed the film Sir C. P. . His latest movie is Mrudhu Bhave Dhruda Kruthye . [6] National award-winning singer Nanjiyamma released the first look poster of the movie. [7] The movie Mrudhu Bhave Dhruda Kruthye released in theaters on 02 February 2024. [8]

The film stars Mammootty in the lead role, along with Nandini, Thilakan, Nedumudi Venu, Captain Raju and Kaveri in supporting roles. The film revolves a boatrace fantic, Kochu Kunju. The film features original songs composed by Raveendran, with the background score done by S. P. Venkatesh. The lyrics were written by Bichu Thirumala. The film was released on 1 April 1999 on the occasion of Vishu. The film was major commercial success and went on to become the third highest grossing film of the year. The film was director Shajoon Karyal's breakthrough in Malayalam cinema.

Mrudhu Bhave Dhruda Kruthye is an Indian Malayalam-language film directed by Shajoon Kariyal and produced by Hydroair Tectonics (SPD) Pvt. Ltd. The film stars Sooraj Sun, Sravana TN, Maria Prince, Dinesh Panicker, Suresh Krishna, Anil Anto and Seema G. Nair in lead roles. The cinematography was handled by Nikhil V Narayanan, and the film's score and songs were composed by Sajan Madhav. The film's story was written by Vijayshankar Menon, while the screenplay was handled by debutant Ravi Thotthil and dialogues were written by Rajesh Kurumali. The film was shot in Kasaragod, Ottapalam, Ernakulam and Mumbai. The film was theatrically released on 2 February 2024.
