Shakuntala Bharne is an Indian vocalist, writer, poet and announcer at All India Radio. [1] [2] She is a writer and activist of the Konkani language agitation. [3]
She trained in music under the guidance of Gangubai Hangal, in Hubli. She has done a double graduation. She has written two books on music - Swaranand and Naadbrahm, for which she received Goa Konkani Akademi and Konkani Bhasha Mandal award. She also wrote the biography of Pt. Prabhakar Karekar. [4] She released an album called Goph at Swaranjali, a tribute concert to Gangubai Hangal. [5] She was one of the poets at Uttējana, a poetry recital in Konkani, in 2014. [6] In 2016, she performed at Vasant Bahar - Konkani Geetancho Haar, a Konkani musical programme. [7] In 2017, she performed at Ghumttachem Fest, in Socorro, Goa. [8] She was also part of the Multilingual Poetry Convention organised in Dadar, Mumbai, by Sahitya Akademi. [9] She hosted the Swarasamrani Girijatai Kelkar music festival in 2018. Konkani is an Indo-Aryan language spoken by the Konkani people, primarily in the Konkan region, along the western coast of India. It is one of the 22 scheduled languages mentioned in the Indian Constitution, and the official language of the Indian state of Goa. It is also spoken in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kerala, Gujarat as well as Damaon, Diu & Silvassa.

Goan Catholics are an ethno-religious community of Indian Christians adhering to the Latin Rite of the Catholic Church from the Goa state, in the southern part of the Konkan region along the west coast of India. They are Konkani people and speak the Konkani language.
Ravindra Kelekar was a noted Indian author who wrote primarily in the Konkani language, though he also wrote in Marathi and Hindi. A Gandhian activist, freedom fighter and a pioneer in the modern Konkani movement, he was a well known Konkani scholar, linguist, and creative thinker. Kelekar was a participant in the Indian freedom movement, Goa's liberation movement, and later the campaign against the merger of the newly formed Goa with Maharashtra. He played a key role in the founding of the Konkani Bhasha Mandal, which lead the literary campaign for the recognition of Konkani as a full-fledged language, and its reinstatement as the state language of Goa. He authored nearly 100 books in the Konkani language, including Amchi Bhas Konkaneech, Shalent Konkani Kityak, Bahu-bhashik Bharatant Bhashenche Samajshastra and Himalayant, and also edited Jaag magazine for more than two decades.
The 1967 Goa status referendum popularly known as the Goa Opinion Poll was a referendum held in newly annexed union territory of Goa and Damaon in India, on 16 January 1967, to deal with the Konkani language agitation and to decide the future of Goa.
Uday Laxmikant Bhembre is an Indian lawyer, Konkani writer and former member of the Goa, Daman and Diu Legislative Assembly. He is noted for his role as the editor of the Konkani daily, Sunaparant, and as a Konkani language activist. Bhembre is also widely known as the lyricist of the famed Goan Konkani language song Channeache Rati.
Konkani in the Roman script, commonly known as Roman Konkani or Romi Konknni refers to the writing of the Konkani language in the Roman script. While Konkani is written in five different scripts altogether, Roman Konkani is widely used. Roman Konkani is known to be the oldest preserved and protected literary tradition beginning from the 16th century AD.
Manohar Rai Sardesai was an Indian Konkani poet, writer and French translator. He received his Doctorat ès lettres françaises for his thesis "L'image de l'Inde en France" from the University of Sorbonne. He has been credited for an upsurge of modern Konkani poetry. Sardesai died in 2006.
Damodar Mauzo is an Indian short story writer, novelist, critic, and screenwriter in Konkani. He was awarded the 57th Jnanpith Award, India's highest literary honour, in 2022, Sahitya Akademi Award in 1983 for his novel Karmelin and the Vimala V. Pai Vishwa Konkani Sahitya Puraskar award for his novel Tsunami Simon in 2011. His collection of short stories Teresa's Man and Other Stories from Goa was nominated for the Frank O'Connor International award in 2015. He has served as a member of the executive board, general council, as well as the finance committee of the Sahitya Akademi.

Jayanti Naik is an Indian Konkani writer, folklore researcher, short story writer, dramatist, children's writer, folklorist, and translator. She was the first person to earn a doctorate from the Goa University's Department of Konkani. She is also a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award. In her career of some three decades, she has produced on average, a book a year.
Ramesh Bhagvant Veluskar was an Indian Konkani poet and litterateur. He died on 21 October 2018 at Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh.
John Aguiar is an Indian Konkani poet, writer, songwriter and journalist whose songs have been broadcast over the All India Radio network, mainly in Goa and on CDs.
Prashanti Talpankar is an Indian writer, translator, playwright, and actor. She is a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize for her work in Konkani and is a cancer survivor.

Reginaldo "Reginald" Fernandes was an Indian writer, musician and cultural figure from the world of Goan and Konkani music. He was known for having written a vast number of Konkani romans novels, over a hundred in number. He has been called the "King of Konkani Fiction".
Pio Antonio Jose Caetano Judas Esteves is an Indian writer, journalist, cartoonist, poet, playwright, and theatre director. As a journalist, he works for the local daily English newspaper O Heraldo. In the Konkani theatre scene, he is known for his work in children's tiatr productions.
Gurunath Shivaji Kelekar was an Indian freedom fighter and author from Goa. He won the Sahitya Akademi Award for his translation of Mahatma Gandhi's The Story of My Experiments with Truth in Konkani.
