Shamil Askhabovich Gasanov (Russian : Шамиль Асхабович Гасанов; born 30 July 1993) is a Russian football player who plays as a centre back for Legion Makhachkala.

Club career

He made his debut in the Russian Second Division for FC Podolye Podolsky district on 11 October 2012 in a game against FC Metallurg-Oskol Stary Oskol. [1]

He made his Russian Premier League debut for FC Anzhi Makhachkala on 18 October 2015 in a game against FC Krasnodar. [2]

On 15 August 2017, he moved to Norway, signing with Tromsø until December 2017 with an option for a 3-year extension. [3] He returned to Russia without playing any games in Norway and signed with FC Yenisey Krasnoyarsk in February 2018.

On 16 February 2019 he joined Baltika Kaliningrad on loan until the end of the 2018–19 season. [4]

Personal life

On 6 June 2023, Gasanov was arrested by police in Moscow after jaywalking and then charged with drug possession after a small quantity of methedrone was allegedly found on him. [5]

The 2013–14 FC Anzhi Makhachkala season was the 4th successive season that Anzhi played in the Russian Premier League, the highest tier of football in Russia, in which they suffered relegation after finishing the season in 16th place. They were knocked out of the Russian Cup at the Round of 32 stage by Alania Vladikavkaz, and they reached the Last 16 of the Europa League where they were defeated by AZ.

The 2014–15 FC Anzhi Makhachkala season was the club's first season back in the Football National League following their relegation in 2014. Anzhi Makhachkala finished the season in 2nd place, earning promotion back to the Russian Premier League at the first opportunity, whilst they also reached the Round of 32 in the Russian Cup where they were knocked out by Zenit St.Petersburg.

The 2018–19 Yenisey Krasnoyarsk season was the first season that the club will play in the Russian Premier League, the highest tier of association football in Russia. Yenisey finished the season in 16th position, being relegated back to the RFNL at the first opportunity.

The 2020–21 FC Anzhi Makhachkala season was the club's second season in the Russian Professional Football League, the third tier of football in Russia, since 1996.
