Shamim Haider Patwary (born 25 September 1981) [1] is a Bangladeshi politician and a former Member of Parliament from Gaibandha-1.
Shamim was elected to parliament as a Jatiya Party candidate from Gaibandha-1 in March 2018 by-election following the death of incumbent Member of Parliament,Golam Mostafa Ahmed,of Bangladesh Awami League. [2] He is also a Member of the 11th parliament from Gaibandha-1 representing the Jatiya Party. [3]
He lost the 2024 election to Abdullah Nahid Nigar a Awami League politician who run as an Independent candidate.
Bangladesh elects on national level a legislature with one house or chamber. The unicameral Jatiyo Sangshad,meaning national parliament,has 350 members of which 300 members are directly elected through a national election for a five-year term in single-seat constituencies while 50 memberships are reserved for the women who are selected by the ruling party or coalition.
