Shane Bemis (born c. 1972) is an American politician who is the former mayor of Gresham,Oregon,Oregon's fourth-largest city. He was elected mayor in 2006,at the age of 34,becoming the youngest mayor in Gresham's history. Prior to serving as mayor,Bemis served as a city councilor for Gresham for one term between 2003 and 2007. [4]
Shane Bemis was born in Billings,Montana,into a politically active family and ultimately chose to become politically. Raised in Billings,Bemis moved to Gresham when he was fifteen years old. [5] After graduating high school,Bemis attended Marylhurst University,where he earned a bachelor's degree in communications. [4] In his twenties,Bemis opened a Bellagio's Pizzeria franchise in Gresham. He credits his business pursuits with his belief in bringing a "business-oriented" approach to local governance in Gresham. [5]
In 2002,Bemis ran for councilor in position #6 against John W. Dillow and won the election by a nearly two-to-one margin. [6] After serving one term,Bemis ran for mayor in 2006 and was elected mayor over incumbent Charles Becker by a margin of 7,417 votes for Bemis to 5,208 for Becker. [7]
In 2007 Mayor Bemis pushed TriMet,the local transit agency,to tackle crime along the MAX light-rail line. This effort resulted in the creation of a transit-police precinct in Gresham. [8]
Bemis was named by the Portland Business Journal as one of the region's "Forty Under 40 Award" recipients in 2007. The "Forty Under 40 Award" honors 40 people in the region under the age of 40 who have shown great accomplishments in their professional lives and made outstanding contributions to their communities. [9] Bemis is a prominent local business person in Gresham,where he is a restaurateur. [10]
Bemis was mentioned as a potential Republican candidate for the 2016 Oregon special gubernatorial election, [11] but ultimately declined to run.
Bemis announced his retirement June 16,2020,citing the need to spend time with his family and keep his restaurant business viable during the COVID-19 pandemic. [12]

Milwaukie is a city mostly in Clackamas County,Oregon,United States;a very small portion of the city extends into Multnomah County. The population was 21,119 at the 2020 census. The Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet) is a public agency that operates mass transit in a region that spans most of the Portland metropolitan area in the U.S. state of Oregon. Created in 1969 by the Oregon legislature,the district replaced five private bus companies that operated in the three counties:Multnomah,Washington,and Clackamas. TriMet started operating a light rail system,MAX,in 1986,which has since been expanded to five lines that now cover 59.7 miles (96.1 km),as well as the WES Commuter Rail line in 2009. It also provides the operators and maintenance personnel for the city of Portland-owned Portland Streetcar system. In 2023,the system had a ridership of 62,055,600,or about 196,900 per weekday as of the fourth quarter of 2023.
Boring is an unincorporated community in Clackamas County,Oregon,United States. It is located along Oregon Route 212 in the foothills of the Cascade mountain range,approximately twelve miles (19 km) southeast of downtown Portland,and fourteen miles (23 km) northeast of Oregon City. A bedroom community,Boring is named after William Harrison Boring,a Union soldier and pioneer whose family built a farm in the area in 1856,before Oregon had received statehood.
The MAX Blue Line is a light rail line serving the Portland metropolitan area in the U.S. state of Oregon. Operated by TriMet as part of the MAX Light Rail system,it connects Hillsboro,Beaverton,Portland,and Gresham. The Blue Line is the longest in the network;it travels approximately 33 miles (53 km) and serves 48 stations from Hatfield Government Center to Cleveland Avenue. It is the busiest of the five MAX lines,having carried an average 55,370 riders each day on weekdays in September 2018. Service runs for 221⁄2 hours per day from Monday to Thursday,with headways of between 30 minutes off-peak and five minutes during rush hour. It runs later in the evening on Fridays and Saturdays and ends earlier on Sundays.

The center is a connection point for several bus routes and the MAX Blue Line. The light rail station is the 25th stop eastbound on the eastside MAX line,which was the Portland metropolitan area's first light rail line.
Pioneer Square South and Pioneer Square North are a pair of light rail stations in Portland,Oregon,United States,served by TriMet as part of the MAX Light Rail system. Situated directly west of the Portland Transit Mall at Pioneer Courthouse Square in downtown Portland,they occupy the sidewalk on Yamhill and Morrison streets between Broadway and 6th Avenue. The stations consist of one side platform each;trains traveling eastbound stop at Pioneer Square South while trains traveling westbound stop at Pioneer Square North.

The transit center is MAX Light Rail's 15th station eastbound on the Blue Line and western terminus on the Red Line. It is also the northern terminus of WES Commuter Rail and a hub for bus routes mostly serving the westside communities of the Portland metropolitan area. Beaverton Transit Center is situated on Southwest Lombard Avenue,just north of Southwest Canyon Road in central Beaverton,connected by walkway to Canyon Place Shopping Center. It recorded 9,709 average weekday boardings for all modes in fall 2018,making it TriMet's busiest transit center.

The "Blue Bus" lines were a group of four affiliated privately owned public transportation companies that provided bus transit service in the Portland,Oregon metropolitan area in the 1950s and 1960s. The name was unofficial but was in common use in the 1960s,and variations included "Blue Bus lines","Blue Lines","blue bus" lines and "blue buses". The Blue Bus companies provided service only between Portland and suburbs outside the city,or within such suburbs,as transit service within the city of Portland was the exclusive franchise of the Portland Traction Company or,after 1956,the Rose City Transit Company (RCT). The "blue buses" were prohibited from making stops inside the city except to pick up passengers destined for points outside RCT's service area. The "blue" name was a reference to the paint scheme worn by most buses of the consortium. By contrast,city transit operator Rose City's buses wore a primarily red paint scheme.
Kvinneakt is an abstract bronze sculpture located on the Transit Mall of downtown Portland,Oregon. Designed and created by Norman J. Taylor between 1973 and 1975,the work was funded by TriMet and the United States Department of Transportation and was installed on the Transit Mall in 1977. The following year Kvinneakt appeared in the "Expose Yourself to Art" poster which featured future Mayor of Portland Bud Clark flashing the sculpture. It remained in place until November 2006 when it was removed temporarily during renovation of the Transit Mall and the installation of the MAX Light Rail on the mall.

Frequent Express (FX) is a high-capacity bus service with some bus rapid transit (BRT) features in Portland,Oregon,United States. Operated by TriMet as FX2–Division,the 15-mile (24 km) route runs east–west from 5th &Hoyt on the Portland Transit Mall in downtown Portland to Cleveland Avenue Park and Ride in Gresham via Division Street. It connects Portland City Center,Portland State University (PSU),South Waterfront,Southeast Portland,and central Gresham,with transfers to MAX Light Rail and the Portland Streetcar.
