The University of Madras or Madras University is a public state university in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Established in 1857, it is one of the oldest universities in India, incorporated by an Act of Legislative Council of India under the British government.
Bharathidasan University (BDU) is a university in the city of Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu, India. It is located on Tiruchirappalli-Pudukkottai National Highway 336. It has affiliated colleges in the districts of Karur, Nagapattinam, Perambalur, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Tiruchirapalli. St Thomas' College (Autonomous), Thrissur is a Government Aided college located in Thrissur City, the Cultural Capital of Kerala, India. Founded by Mar Adolph Medlycott in 1889, this college played a very important role in the development of the State. It is the oldest college in the erstwhile princely state of Cochin and present day Thrissur district. It is the second private college to be recognised as a first grade college under University of Madras, in then existed princely states of Travancore, Cochin and Malabar which later became mostly the present geographical area of Kerala. It is the first Catholic college in Kerala and is conducted by the Syro-Malabar Catholic Archdiocese of Thrissur. Mar Andrews Thazhath is the Patron and Mar Tony Neelankavil is the Manager of the College now.
The college is affiliated to University of Calicut. The College attained Autonomous status in 2014 and was recognised as College with Potential for Excellence by University Grants Commission in 2016. The College was awarded A Grade in its third cycle of reaccreditation by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) after the peer team review in 2016.
SRM Institute of Science and Technology is a private deemed university located in Kattankulathur, Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu, India, near Chennai. It was founded in 1985 as SRM Engineering College in Kattankulathur. SRM Institute of Science and Technology includes seven campuses, three in Tamil Nadu — Kattankulathur, Ramapuram and Vadapalani, one in NCR Delhi, all 4 of which come under ‘SRM IST, Chennai’. The other 3 campuses include one in Sikkim, one in Sonipat and one in Amaravati. There are about 50,000 students studying in SRM.
Maraimalai Nagar is a satellite town of Chennai, Chengalpattu district, Tamil Nadu, India. It is a municipality town in Chengalpattu district. It lies in the southern part of the Chennai metropolitan area around 50 km from downtown Chennai Egmore and about 15 km from Vandalur. Maraimalar Nagar is a part of the Chennai metropolitan area. It is a satellite town developed by the CMDA in 1980. Many heavy industries are located in Maraimalai Nagar. The Ford India and BMW car factories are located within a mile from Maraimalai Nagar and the Indian software giant Infosys also has an office within eight kilometers of Maraimalai Nagar. SRM University has its main campus in the neighbouring Potheri. As of 2011, Maraimalai Nagar had a population of 81,872.
Anna University Tiruchirappalli otherwise Anna University Chennai – Regional Office, BIT CAMPUS, Tiruchirappalli (AUC-ROT), erstwhile Anna University of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, is a technical university department of Anna University, It is located on Tiruchirappalli–Pudukkottai National Highway 336, Tamil Nadu, India. It was established on 1999 as a part of Bharathidasan University with five departments viz., Bio-Technology, Petrochemical Technology, Information Technology and Pharmaceutical Technology. In 2007, due to management constrains Anna University was split into six universities, namely: Anna University, Chennai; Anna University, Chennai – Taramani Campus; Anna University Chennai - Regional Office, Coimbatore; Anna University Chennai - Regional Office, Madurai; Anna University Chennai – Regional Office, Tiruchirappalli; Anna University Chennai - Regional Office, Tirunelveli. Government acquired this campus from Bharathidasan University and renamed it as Anna University Tiruchirappalli in 2007.The university is an accredited university with powers to grant affiliations to colleges and universities conducting graduate and post graduate studies, as well as diploma courses, and is so recognized by the UGC.

Professor A. Dakshinamurthy is an eminent Tamil scholar, writer, and an English translator of classical, medieval and modern Tamil literature. He is a pioneer in the field of translation of Classical Tamil works. He is best known for his complete and faithful English translations of 19 ancient classical Tamil literature for the very first time in history between the period of 1999-2012. The Government of India honored him with the Presidential Award for lifetime achievement in Classical Tamil, 'The Tolkappiyar Award' for the year 2015.
James Vasanthan is an Indian Television (Tamil) host, a film music composer, and a filmmaker and a motivational speaker. For more than two decades, he has worked as an anchor in popular Tamil satellite television channels like Sun TV and Vijay TV before debuting as a film music composer in the Tamil Film Industry in the year 2008, and a filmmaker in 2015.

Chitra Dutta is a former chief scientist and head of Structural Biology and Bioinformatics division in CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, Kolkata, India. She is a physicist working in the areas of bioinformatics and computational biology. She is engaged in 'in-silico' analysis of genome/proteome architectures of host/vector/pathogen systems in quest of novel intervention strategies. Comparative genome analysis of various bacterial, viral and parasitic pathogens conducted by her group have not only given an insight into the natural forces driving the molecular evolution of the microbial world, but also provided a better understanding of the intricacies of pathogen–host interactions and co-evolution. She has demonstrated how the relative strengths of various selection pressures vary within and across the organisms depending on their G+C-content, life-style and taxonomic distribution. Her group has also delineated the role played by mutational imbalance, hydrophobicity, gene expressivity and aromaticity in shaping microbial protein architectures. She is also internationally acclaimed for her studies on ‘Chaos game representation’. She has developed novel algorithms for recognition of fractal patterns in nucleotide and amino acid sequences through statistical analyses of genome and proteome composition of different thermophilic, symbiotic/parasitic organisms and she has revealed that thermal adaptation involves overrepresentation of purine bases in mRNAs, higher GC-content of the structural RNAs and enhanced usage of positively charged residues and aromatic residues at the cost of neutral polar residues, while the parasitic adaptation is reflected in the extreme genome reduction, presence of weak translational selection and large heterogeneity in membrane associated proteins. Recent works from her group on 'pan-genomic analysis of human microbiome in health and diseases' have also been highly acknowledged in scientific literature.
Sunita Jain (1940–2017) was an Indian scholar, novelist, short-story writer and poet of English and Hindi literature. She was a former professor and the Head of the department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. She published over 60 books, in English and Hindi, besides translating many Jain writings into English. She is featured in the Encyclopedia of Post-Colonial Literatures in English and was a recipient of The Vreeland Award (1969) and the Marie Sandoz Prairie Schooner Fiction Award. The Government of India awarded her the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri in 2004. In 2015 she was awarded the Vyas Samman by the K.K. Birla foundation for outstanding literary work in Hindi. In 2015 she was awarded an honorary D.Litt. from the University of Burdhwan, West Bengal.
Muthusamy Lakshmanan is an Indian theoretical physicist and a Ramanna fellow of the Department of Science and Technology at the Centre for Nonlinear Dynamics of Bharathidasan University. He has held several research fellowships which included Raja Rammanna fellowship of Department of Atomic Energy, Alexander von Humboldt fellowship, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science fellowship, Royal Society Nuffield Foundation fellowship, and NASI-Senior Scientist Platinum Jubilee Fellowship.
SRM University, Haryana (SRMH), also known as SRM University, Delhi-NCR, Sonepat, is a private university located at the Rajiv Gandhi Education City in Sonepat, Haryana, India. The university was established in 2013 by the SRM Institute of Science & Technology Trust, Chennai through The Haryana Private Universities (Amendment) Act, 2013 which also established Shree Guru Gobind Singh Tricentenary University, Jagan Nath University, NCR, GD Goenka University and K.R. Mangalam University. The university is part of the SRM Educational Group which also includes the parent deemed university, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, headquartered in Chennai, and another private university, SRM University, Sikkim, among other institutes.
Poornachandran is a Tamil writer from India. He was born in Arcot in 1949, worked as a Tamil professor in Bishop Heber College, Tiruchirappalli and an emeritus professor in Pondicherry University. He is currently living in Chennai. He has written many books on the subjects of Tamil literary criticism and has translated several books from English to Tamil. He won the Sahitya Akademi Award for Translation in 2016 for his translation of the fiction Serious Men by Manu Joseph into Tamil as "Poruppumikka Manidargal". He is also a recipient of Anantha Vikatan awards for translation in 2011 and 2016.
He has written 11 books, majorly based on literary criticism and western contemporary theories, and has translated 37 books on variety of subjects and genres from English to Tamil. He has also published 4 books and has written a lot of essays in the little magazines such as Kalachuvadu (காலச்சுவடு), Nigazh (நிகழ்), Tamil Neyam. He is one of the first persons to conduct Badal Sircar Theatrical Workshop in Tiruchirappalli in 1989. He had been an influential person in Tiruchi Cine-forum and Tiruchi Readers-forum and had developed an interest on art films and serious book reading in many of his students. He is actively writing essays and articles in his website www.poornachandran.com which shall help the students on their academics and the others to think on the contemporary issues faced by the society on various fields. He is also running an endowment on his name through which he has been conducting regular workshops for the students on the subjects of literature and criticism.
