SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), formerly SRM University, is a private deemed university, located in Kattankulathur, Chengalpattu (near Chennai), Tamil Nadu, India. Founded in 1985 as SRM Engineering College in Kattankulathur, it gained the deemed status in 2002. SRM Institute of Science and Technology includes four campuses in Tamil Nadu — Kattankulathur, Ramapuram and Vadapalani, and Tiruchirappalli, three distinct state private universities – in Andhra Pradesh, Haryana and Sikkim.

History

The first college of what is now SRMIST, SRM (Sri Ramaswamy Memorial) Engineering College, was established in 1985, followed by the other SRM colleges from 1992 to 1997. [3] The institute gained deemed status in 2002 as SRM Institute of Science and Technology and renamed SRM University in 2006. [3] In 2017, its name was reverted to SRM Institute of Science and Technology following UGC's order to drop "University" from the name. [4]

Campuses

Located about 35 km (22 mi) [5] away from the city of Chennai, this campus is situated on a 250 acre [6] site overlooking Grand Southern Trunk Road (GST Road), NH-32. The main campus at Kattankulathur consists of a College of Engineering and Technology, College of Medicine and Health Sciences, College of Science and Humanities, School of Management, School of Architecture and School of Law. It is also one of the few schools in India that offers a Degree in Telecom studies.

Vadapalani campus

Vadapalani Campus is located at Vadapalani, Chennai. This campus houses the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Faculty of Management Sciences, Faculty of MCA. The SRM Institute for Medical Sciences is also located within the campus. [7]

Tiruchirappalli campus

The 250-acre (100 ha) campus at Trichy on the Trichy-Chennai highway houses the faculties of Engineering & Technology, Science & Humanities, Allied Medical Science and Management. [7]

The QS World University Rankings ranked SRM Institute of Science and Technology 271-280 in Asia in 2024. [14]

SRM Institute of Science and Technology ranked 29th among engineering colleges in India by India Today in 2020. The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranked it 28th in the engineering ranking, [15] 15th in the pharmacy ranking, [16] 18th among universities [17] and 32nd overall [18] in NIRF 2023.

The National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli is a national research deemed university near the city of Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu, India. It was founded as Regional Engineering College Tiruchirappalli in 1964 by the governments of India and Tamil Nadu under the affiliation of the University of Madras. The college was granted deemed university status in 2003 with the approval of the University Grants Commission (UGC), the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and the Government of India and renamed the National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli.

Anurag University is a Private University located in Venkatapur, Medchal-Malkajgiri district, Hyderabad, Telangana, India. Established in 2020, and is one of the First Private Universities in the State of Telangana. The Institution currently offers 15 Undergraduate Programs, 10 Postgraduate Programs and 9 Doctoral Programs through its Schools of Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Agriculture and Medical Sciences.
