The West Bengal State Council of Technical & Vocational Education and Skill Development(Bengali : পশ্চিমবঙ্গ রাজ্য কারিগরি ও বৃত্তিমূলক শিক্ষা এবং দক্ষতা উন্নয়ন পর্ষদ) (Erstwhile West Bengal State Council of Vocational Education and Training)(Bengali : পশ্চিমবঙ্গ রাজ্য বৃত্তিমূলক শিক্ষা ও প্রশিক্ষণ সংসদ) is a statutory body under the Department of Technical Education, Training and Skill Development (West Bengal) of Government of West Bengal for administration and examining vocational courses in West Bengal. The courses are offered from various affiliated institutions, including Higher Secondary, Secondary Schools and Polytechnic Colleges across the state. Its headquarters are in Karigori Bhavan in Kolkata. [1]

History

Before 2005 West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education was in the administration of vocational education in West Bengal. Vocational Stream emerged as an Autonomous body in 2005 and running successfully since then in West Bengal. On 5 December 2013 the Govt. of West Bengal brought a bill in Assembly. This bill passed on 15 July 2015 in the Assembly and a new Council was formed in the name of “West Bengal State Council of Technical and Vocational Education and Skill Development” by merging ‘West Bengal State Council of Technical Education’ and ‘West Bengal State Council of Vocational Education and Training.’Presently this stream is equivalent to General Stream of H.S. Education.

Curriculum

The Higher Secondary Course offered by the Council consist of two parts, Class XI and Class XII. Sectionsinclude Engineering and Technology, Agriculture, Business and Commerce, Home Science. Subjects under Higher Secondary Examination level are

Also common subjects like Technical Drawing, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics Also certificate course for VIII pass students is also offered from this council under various affiliated Institutes. These courses are- [2]

After completing the class X exam the student persuades in different stream such as Science Commerce and Arts (Humanities). The Class 12 Board Exam are conducted by State Board (HSC), Central Board of Secondary Education (AISSCE) And Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations ( ISC). The scores achieved in XII exams are considered very important for getting into universities, professional courses or training programmes and other occupations Such as getting in Major Public / Private University(College) or Institute of national importance Such as AIIMS, NIT,IIT, IIIT And IIM.Due to the implementation of NEP 2020 the board exam would be conducted Twice in a year just like in academic year 2021-22 it would be implemented in Next Academic year 2024-25.

Madhyamik Pariksha or simply Madhyamik is a centralized examination conducted by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education in West Bengal, India, at the end of the 10th year of school education. Similarly, one examination is also conducted at the state of Tripura for its students studying in Govt or Govt Aided school under the control of Tripura Board of Secondary Education. By count of examinees, it is among the better-known 10th standard examinations in India. In WBSE, over 600,000 students took the exam in 2000, and the number has increased substantially since then. The number of students reached a record 1 million in the 2011 Madhyamik examination. Compulsory subjects are first language, second language, physical science, life science, mathematics, history and geography.

In the Indian education system of some Indian states, the Pre-University Course (PUC) or Pre-Degree Course (PDC) is referred to as Intermediate or +2 Course, which is an two-year senior secondary education course that succeeds the tenth grade and precedes to the completion of an Senior Secondary Course. The First Year of the PUC is commonly referred to as 1st PUC or Class 11th,, and the Second Year of the PUC as 2nd PUC or Class 12th. A college which offers the PUC is simply known as a 'PU college' or 'Intermediate College' which is also referred to as junior college.

The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) or Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) or Higher Secondary Education Certificate (HSE) is a secondary education qualification in Bangladesh, India and Pakistan. It is equivalent to the final year of high school in the United States and GCE A level in the United Kingdom.

Vocational secondary education in Denmark takes place at special state-funded vocational schools (erhvervsskoler), most of which are either technical schools or business colleges (handelsskoler).
