Following the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological Universities Act, 2008 Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University was split into four universities, Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Anantapur, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad and Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Kakinada. [33] This is also reflected by the UGC list. [34] The date of establishment of all four institutes is therefore 2008, though Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University was established in 1972 by The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Act, 1972 [35] which is what the UGC lists as the establishment date for Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad.

Also based in the city are the Institute of Public Enterprise and the National Academy of Legal Studies & Research (NALSAR). Hyderabad has various research institutes such as the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology. It is also the home of Maulana Azad National Urdu University as well as Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University.

The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Gurajada, Vizianagaram (JNTU-GV) is a public university located in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh. It was established on 12 January 2022. The university was named after Gurajada Apparao, a noted Indian playwright, dramatist, poet, and writer known for his works in Telugu theatre. The university mainly focuses on engineering.

South Coast Railway Zone (SCoR) has been announced as the newest railway zone of the Indian Railways and is headquartered at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The formal notification for operationalization of this Zone is yet to be issued.
