Assam is a state in northeastern India. In 2011, the literacy rate of Assam was estimated to be 73.18% (78.81% male and 67.27% female).The literacy rate of Assam is slightly below the national average of 74.04%.

School education in Assam [1] is imparted through a number of pre-primary, primary, middle, high and higher secondary schools [2] The Government of Assam has implemented free and compulsory education for students up to the age of 18. Schools in Assam are either state run or under the management of private organisations . The syllabus at primary schools is established by the Directorate of Elementary Education, Assam. Gunoutsav Assam is the authority to check the quality of education in schools,while most schools are affiliated to SEBA, there are several schools in the state affiliated to the CBSE or NENBSE. Medium of instruction

The language used for instruction is Assamese, Bodo, Bengali, English, and Hindi. Many State Government affiliated schools and all the CBSE affiliated schools in the state use English as their medium of instruction at the Higher Secondary level.[ citation needed ] English is the medium of instruction in almost all higher educational institutions.

In terms of district-wise literates, united East Godavari has the most with 3,348,077 and united Vizianagaram has the least with 1,238,388. The government also implements fee reimbursement scheme for the economically backward sections of the state.

One of the newly formed states in India, Chhattisgarh covers an area of 135,194 km2. It was recognized as a state on 1 November 2000. The education scenario in Chhattisgarh is not very remarkable as it lacks proper educational infrastructure. However, the state government has launched several programs for enhancing the academic scenario of the state. The overall growth in the literacy rate has been possible due to the persistent efforts of the state government. According to the 2001 census report, Chhattisgarh had a literacy rate of 65.18% which included male and female literacy rate of 77.86% and 52.40% respectively. The capital city Raipur is the main center of higher education in Chhattisgarh. It houses some of the most important departments of education in the state. Also the twin City of Bhilai-Durg is known as "Education hub of Chhattisgarh" as there are many well known schools and coaching institutes present for preparation of various competitive exams. In Bhilai sector 5 Market and sector 10 Zonal market is a major hub for NEET & JEE pretest coaching centers. They have active more than 100 centers and thousands of students preparing for NEET and JEE.

The smallest state in India, Goa covers an area of 3,702 km2. Situated on the western coast of India, Goa shares its northern boundary with Maharashtra. Karnataka covers the eastern and southern boundary of the state. Panaji is the capital city of the state of Goa. One of the major tourist destinations in India, Goa also houses some of the best educational institutes of the nation. The education system here is comparatively better than many other states. According to the 2001 census report, the state has a literacy rate of 82%, well above the national average.
