Chidambaram is a town and municipality in Cuddalore district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is the headquarters of the Chidambaram taluk. The town is believed to be of significant antiquity and has been ruled, at different times, by the Pallavas until 9th century, Medieval Cholas, Later Cholas, Later Pandyas, Vijayanagar Empire, Thanjavur Nayakas, Marathas and the British. The town is known for the Thillai Nataraja Temple and Thillai Kali Temple, and the annual chariot festival held in the months of December–January and June to July. St.Paul's Matriculation Higher Secondary School is a brother institution of St.Joseph's of Cluny, Neyveli. St.Joseph's of Cluny started on 15 July 1968, swelled into 2300 students by 1975, with only VII standards. The segregation of the boys in a separate school was very keenly felt, and the time, in the providence of God, was not yet ripe. The challenge of opening this boys' school was accepted by the then Archbishop of Pondicherry and Cuddalore on 29 June 1977 and was inaugurated by MR. Radhakrishnan, the Deputy Chief Personnel Manager of Neyveli Lignite Corporation. Since then the school has grown into a Higher Secondary School with a strength of more than 3800 students.
